Why aren't more things apple-flavored

Because synthetic apple flavor is disgusting. All that green apple stuff is garbage. Yes, it’s just my own opinion, but I doubt that I’m the only one.

Google: Apple Flavored Food

Well, the OP was referencing another thread, and it would be nice to have a link to it to call the shenanigans there. I agree with you, though; Brigham’s in this area used to make an Apple Pie ice cream that was a seasonal flavor; it was terrific , especially with cinnamon sprinkled on top.

I think the real reason is that it reminds the Adam in every man what he lost when Eve… uh oh …

Bite your tongue. Green-apple Jolly Ranchers are the best confection ever invented.

As an afterthought, I had some apple/chocolate candies in Japan that were pretty good. I think they actually contained dried apple.

To those of you who were talking about apple flavored sodas, Fanta makes one (click “All about Fanta” to see the flavors). I had it once, it was okay. Tasted kind of like… carbonated apple juice.

Although now I see that they make peach and black cherry and I want to try those!

I’ve always loved Sidral, one of the several brands of Mexican apple-flavored pop that someone mentioned above. It’s available in many grocery stores that have hispanic sections (at least here in Columbus, it is…). I like apples, but I don’t know that I’d really go for apple candy bars, though.

Possibly consumers don’t demand apple flavors because they don’t appreciate how good apples can taste. The stores are so full of to Red Delicious crapples people think that’s what apples taste like. Who wants bland Red Delicious-flavored anything?

I love apple-flavored tea, and it’s almost impossible to find. I may try making my own, once I get some really fragrant dried apples.

Count me as another fan of apple-flavored soda-pop. I miss Apple Slice, and better yet, Diet Apple Slice was the only diet that I’d ever liked. Hell, is slice even available?

Also another vote for availability of Mexican apple soda pop in Mexican areas. Well, at least in Detroit and Pontiac. As I’m currently actually in Mexico, I have all the “Manzana Lift” that I care to drink, and now rather miss Vernors. Who the hell am I kidding? I’m happy with Modelo Especial (that’s a brand of beer, from the makers of Corona, but actually non-skunk tasting).

But which apple flavor would it be?

There’s a heck of a range of apple flavors, from the bland, nearly flavorless red delicious, the tart green Granny Smith, the Braeburn, the new HoneyCrisp, …

Seems like there could be a whole series of apple flavors, while strawberry, banana, etc. are pretty much only 1 standard flavor.

Celestial Seasonings makes a nice cinnamon apple tea, and they have a couple of instant ciders, too.

There is only one problem with this theory. Artificial banana and strawberry taste NOTHNG like actual banana or strawberry. NOTHNG like the real thing. NOT a bit like the real thing.

I haven’t noticed a lack of apple flavoured stuff because I haven’t been looking for it. I have, however, noticed the horrible overload in that odd pink, sweet, sugary flavour, often called strawberry and it’s hideous yellow cousin.

What I miss is grapefruit, not “ruby red” or “pink” but just plain old, pleasantly sour grapefruit. Everytime I notice a NEW (Ad-man talk) grapefruit iceblock it disapears 2 mins later.

It is strawberry season… YAY. Nothing beats a fresh strawberry but whoever invented the “flavour” of artificial strawberry needs to be beaten over the head with the flavour stick.

I prefer the palm pilot to the Apple Newton .

I don’t know where they get it, but the bar/grill at a local golf club here has a dessert on the menu that comes dripping with a cinnamon ice cream. I order the ice cream by itself on the side.

[hijack]Which means that it will be another six months before it is strawberry season in the northern hemisphere. Sigh. I agree, though. I go to local “U-Pick” farms, and buy far too many strawberries. I put some up in strawberry preserves, and freeze some for ice cream topping, hoping they will last until the next strawberry season.

If you are wondering about artificial strawberry flavoring, then what is going on with cherry flavoring? At least the “strawberry” flavoring bears a slight resemblance to a strawberry, but no “cherry” flavored product tastes like any cherry that I have ever had. I think a flavor was developed, someone thought it tasted red, it was arbitrarily labeled “cherry”, and was dyed accordingly. [/hijack]

Up here we have President’s Choice green apple soda, regular and diet. It’s not bad.

Apple flavor is more delicate than many of the typical candy bar and ice cream flavors. One reason you don’t often see apple-flavored ice cream is that, since taste buds aren’t as sensitive when they’re cold, the apple flavor wouldn’t come through very well. I have tasted ice creams that claim to be apple-pie flavored, but they mainly rely on spices associated with apple pies (cinnamon and allspice, e.g.).

Also, ice cream flavored with real apples wouldn’t work well because apples contain a lot of water, and pieces of apple would turn into icy chunks. One could use partially dried apples, I guess, but I doubt the texture would be very good. If you tried mixing applesauce into ice cream you would probably get something hard as a brick with hardly any apple flavor.

The idea of an apple-flavored candy bar is interesting. Most candy bars contain chocolate, but I don’t think you’d want that in an apple bar (the chocolate would overwhelm the apple). I can see a bar with dried tart apple pieces bound together with caramel and coated with that yogurt coating that’s sometimes used on dried fruit - this could taste something like a caramel apple.

Must be local – I have been to two diff Targets here (in TX) and neither have any Jones soda on clearance. The diet Green Apple and diet Black Cherry sodas they make are two of the best diet sodas on the market, IMO. I love that stuff. (Their regular diet Cola is positively vile, surprisingly enough.)

Pomegranets. No, really. Artificial cherry flavor tastes like maraschino cherries, like one would find on the top of a sundae. Maraschino cherries are cherries preserved in grenadine syrup, which actually contributes most of the taste. And grenadine syrup is made from pomegranets. Of course, nowadays it’s usually synthetic, but that’s where the flavor originates.
