Why aren't the owls what they seem?

I don’t get it.

???

Huh? They’re crap, and they seem crap.

(You do mean Sheffield Wednesday, don’t you? :stuck_out_tongue: )

Well, Whoooooooooo else would they be?

They’re masters of disguise. They LOOK like owls, but they’re actually the tiny gnome minions of the Trilateral Commission, spying on all right-thinking citizens.

They seem like owls, but they’re … uh… look, it’s been a long time. They show up when stuff happens, like Major Briggs disappearing or the necklace in the woods being gone. You’d think they’d be bad, but a few times the owls make an appearance that seems to help the game play. A lot of people think they’re sinister, but I think they’re more neutral.

The Log Lady seems to have their number, listen to her and you’ll be fine.

It should have gone on one more season, to tie up the loose ends.

Twin Peaks reference.

The light bulb goes on!

Well, never mind then. Never saw it.

Why bother to turn the lights on?

The only thing to see there in the dark are, well, owls.

And the Devil.
And Dick Cheney, of course.

I still don’t get it.

Apparently, it was Twin Peaks. And nobody ever got Twin Peaks…

I’ve just ‘voted’ for the second season of Twin Peaks to be released.

Here is the page. AIUI, by requesting to be notified when the DVD is released the studio may eventually be informed of the interest. I already have the first season of course, plus the pilot episode and Fire Walk With Me. I want that second season!

My log has something to tell you.

You need to wipe?

Anybody remember when MacLachlan was on SNL right before the second season started and they did that skit where Leo confesses to the murder but Cooper refuses to accept it because he deosn’t want to leave? “My log says Leo did it.” Heh.

Anyway, IMO the owls are a way for the spirits of the Lodge to get around in the real world. One of the owls takes Major Briggs, and they’re around when important stuff happens. They might also just be a way for Lodge spirits to observe what’s happening in the world. I think they might be neutral as well, because there may be good lodge spirits helping Cooper and the Bookhouse Boys out, but most of the time we encounter them they’re evil because they’re helping the folks from the Black Lodge.

This thread reminded me of the very old joke, in which a dumb guy mistakenly bought an owl instead of a parrot and foolishly attempted to teach the poor animal to speak. His friend, that never had the heart to tell him, asked how the task was going:

  • “Any words from the bird?”

-“He is not talking yet, but there is progress”

-“How so?”

-“He does pay attention!”

That’s what I thought; you beat me to it!
