No, dark isn’t necessarily bad, and lighthearted doesn’t work well for Batman. That’s the point. What works well for Batman won’t work well for Superman. The first two Nolan Batman films were also very dark, and nobody complains about that, because they’re Batman. But try to bring the same aesthetic over to Man of Steel, and it’s a total mismatch.
Other than the color palette, what was dark about Man of Steel, though? It was serious, sure. There wasn’t a lot of winking and smiles and banter, but the story itself wasn’t any darker than your standard Superman stuff.
I feel like Pa Kent said, ‘Maybe,’ and Zod didn’t go to jail and some people lost their shit because of it.
A couple of notes:As has been mentioned before, this is your Superman…Superman killed Zod, Killed Doomsday and killed Mr. Myxztplk (sp??)
And He killed Doomsday AFTER he killed Zod and swore never to kill again, and was seriously punished for it by writers and himself.
That Suicide Squad did so well is amazing.
First, it’s Suicide Squad. Yes they had a great run in the 80’s but that series was cancelled and not revived until forever.
Leto’s Joker had a billion strikes against him.
People wern’t terribly happy about Will Smith being Deadshot. Personally I applaud that kind of color-blind casting. It’s not like I’m going to lose sleep over not seeing the greasy hair and pedo stasche Floyd had.
I’m stunned that film did so well.
