I want “Simple Sister!”
Some albums are simply not available for download in the US, or perhaps anywhere. It’s an annoyance I come across regularly.
If it’s something I really want, I’ve gone to the trouble to order the physical CD. Often that means ordering it as an import from Europe or Asia.
I get that but I just wonder WHY that particular album, when every album before and after Broken Barricades is available to download.
Paperwork SNAFU between the distributor and the group’s agent, I’d imagine. Someone didn’t agree to the terms of the deal, is why { number } of these fall through.
It’s not available through Spotify as well.
Easily available on the internet (Youtube), as are Youtube to MP3 converters.
Moderating:
Please remember that this site respects copyrights. Listening to a song on YouTube is fine. Downloading an mp3 from YouTube is generally not legal. Giving advise on how to do that is not allowed on the SDMB.
Oops, sorry about that.
Strangely, Allmusic does list several digital releases. It’s listed on Tidal’s site, but when I click “open in Tidal” the app states that the album was removed.
It was remastered by Apple and available on their platform in the past. I wonder if PH’s representatives objected to the way the remastered version sounded and had it pulled.
I’ve sought it on iTunes/ Apple for at least five years. One would expect that “Simple Sister,” a minor hit from a famous band without many hits, would be available on a compilation somewhere.
I just looked up that for “Broken Barricades”, the band had changed labels in the UK from Decca to Chrysalis. That might still be an issue for the current rights-holders. I’ve often noticed that albums on streaming services from certain artists that weren’t available were initially released on different labels than the available albums.
I noticed that, too, but all of their subsequent albums in the 1970s were also on Chrysalis and they are available on Apple Music.
“Simple Sister” is available on Spotify, within the “Exotic Birds and Fruit” (expanded edition) album.
mmm
Can music be downloaded from Spotify?
Not as an MP3 file, no. At least not legally.
ETA: I just looked an Deezer, the streaming service I have subscribed to, and the whole album is available in original and “Remastered And Expanded” form.
Thanks. A legal download is what I hope to find. I could always buy a c.d. (…used… for $107 on Amazon.)
Any Procol Harum fans out there that can fill in the blanks of this story?
Here’s the expanded box set for $27.70 on Amazon. You’ll get 44 songs on 3 CDs, with most of the bonus tracks live recordings from the time.
Regrettably, Deezer only lets me play one song from that album. “Simple Sister” is ‘not available in your country.’ Back to YouTube and / or vinyl…
