Why can't I get someone to fix our fence?

Well, he said he did - is that good enough?

Thanks for the response, Cheesesteak. Perhaps I’m a tad sensitive as my trade is subject to being frequently maligned, and sadly, some of it deserved.

It is frustrating to wait for a professional, and it follows that the small firms like mine may not be able to see you for a few weeks or address your remodeling project for six months, depending upon scheduled work.

The root issue is that most people who operate a remodeling/construction business do so because they are good at their craft, and don’t like working for someone else. That does not mean they know spit about running a business. Scheduling, proposing, pricing, accounting, etc. are often dealt with via SWAG. This is the area where we give ourselves a black eye.

Some firms grow to address greater demand. Others stay small and lose business that will not wait. I’m sufficiently anally retentive that everything has to be done just so, and as such stay small, have a long waiting list, and make sure those who will wait for me are happy when it’s all done.
