I hate people who send me messages that I start their transfer. For fuck’s sake, you can wait in line like everyone else. What makes you so special? And, even better, is when I get THREATS about what’ll happen if I don’t start this asshole’s transfer immediately. Fuck off.
LaurAnge,
See my post immediately above…I don’t have a problem waiting my turn, except in the case mentioned there…
" it’s customary, on the service I’m on, to request a transfer start in trade with someone else who is trying to d/l from your system - I probably didn’t make it clear in my rant that my problem is with folks who won’t start transfers even though they, too, are waiting for a transfer from me; I offer to start their transfer in exchange for the file I want, and they refuse…soft of “bad form” in this instance."
“BAD FORM” my ass. You’re a jerk. Pull it on me and your IP gets permanently blocked. My shares are first come first serve. NO EXCEPTIONS.
And my sister wonders why I don’t want these kinds of programs on my computer…
You get what you pay for, I guess.
I gotta agree with Read_Neck that first come first serve is the way to go. I wouldn’t ban an IP (unless they get abusive) but the system works better if everyone gets away from a “trade” mentality.
Can you not get someone who actually has cable to record this show and mail it or courier it to you, then you wouldnt have this hassle? Because, seriously, maybe others user cant afford better connection to the net, be reasonable about it.
Check your e-mail DirkGntly, there is a very effective solution to your problem but I’m not going to break any rules here by posting it.
What a whiny rant. Getting stuff for free that most people pay for, and then complains about the delivery.
Get a life. Or just get cable. Nobody’s forcing you to watch the shows you don’t want to see. That big red button on the remote? That’s the power button.
I wish I had any idea what you guys were talking about regarding starting transfers and queues and such.
I know nothing beyond point and click to download, and don’t even mess with the upload stuff, it does itself. :dubious:
FWIW, they might actually have a fast connection but slow downloads. My college limits Kazaa bandwidth to about .5kbps per user, for instance. WinMX, too. It makes me angry, but then I remember that I’m breaking the law and suddenly I don’t feel right about being angry any more.
Hauky,
Thanks, that would actually explain a lot…
Gorsnak,
Bite my cherry-red ASS, you fuck-wit…And I am at liberty to say that because you obviously can’t fucking READ! I have posted the following info:
1.) I turned off cable because of the damned COMMERCIALS which I CANNOT CONTROL (unless I wanted to BUY ANOTHER PIECE OF EQUIPMENT TO SCREEN THOSE)…their content was WAY overboard, even on “safe” programs…
2.) I am NOT downloading ANYTHING anyone else is PAYING FOR. These shows are on BROADCAST TELEVISION…I just happen to live in a rural area that depends on cable to get reliable reception…
Delly,
My problem isn’t with people with slow connections - I realize not everyone can afford broadband. My problem is with folks who advertise broadband connections, but actually seem to be dialup-only.
:::tiptoes in:::
I just have to ask…are you seriously that concerned about commercials on family shows? (I don’t mean that as snarky, honestly.) That strikes me as going overboard in shielding your kids.
Makes sense to me . . . I find commercials to be far and away more psycologically damaging than any amount of sex, drugs, violence, or language. I mean, when they make violent movies, roomfuls of psychologists don’t sit down ad say “OK, how can we make people feel insecure, inferior, and lacking so that they will want to fill a void in their life with our product?”
As far as problems with wait times on file sharing goes, I think it’s one of those things that it is okay to be anoyed about, but oyu ahve to acknowledge that it is wonderful that the capability exisits at all.
I get your point Manda Jo but the angle of my question was more in the way of how does a family manage to even go out in public if commercials on family shows are too offensive? Some BILLBOARDS around here are offensive, for pete’s sake.
I can’t speak for the OP, but if I had kids I would certainly be interested in limiting their exposure to advertising, fully recognizing that I couldn’t come close to eliminating it. Afterall, quanity is an important element in advertisment: that’s why Coke and McDs and such are willing to pay so much to have every avalible surface covered with ads. Even if you can’t prevent your kids from ever seeing such a thing as a Rebock ad doesn’t mean it isn’t worth while to keep them from being ubiquitious inside the home as well as outside it.
Sat on Cookie — Nice hijack. Now I remember why I don’t read any thread past the first page.
Fair enough. I just hadn’t really seen it that way.
Sorry for the hijack – I didn’t mean to derail the thread. Thanks for pointing out my misstep Read_Neck :smack:
Um, someone IS paying for these shows-by paying for cable, and ads which pay for them.
No worries SOC.anyone that pays attention to P2P knows that the software is going to outdistance the court system with encryption and IP masking but the “you get what you pay for” has, does and always will apply. If you can do something to improve P2P that’s great but griping about it is ludricrous.
