Actually, a group of Inuit hunters called something like the Northern Defense Force is an adjunct to Canada’s military. They patrol as they hunt, notifying the regular forces if anything is out of the ordinary.
Scribe and Biblio, you are quite right, and I thank you for pointing this out. I should have mentioned it. The MPs from the territories are exactly the same as the MPs from the provinces, except, there being fewer residents, there are fewer MPs - one per territory. They are Louise Hardy, MP for the Yukon (NDP); Nancy Karetak-Lindell, MP for Nunavut (Liberal); and Hon. Ethel Blondin-Andrew, MP for Western Arctic (i.e. NWT) (Liberal), who also happens to be the Secretary of State for Children and Youth. So the territories have the exact same kind of representation in Parliament as the provinces.
