Why didn't any of you bastards tell me how wonderful DOCTOR WHO is?

I never got over being upset that Eccleston left the show after only one season, so I was OK with the switch from Tennant to Smith. I realize that doesn’t make a lot of logical sense. But yeah, Matt Smith is great.

That makes perfect sense. Didn’t Tennant replace Eccleston? If so, you probably resented the former faintly for replacing the latter, so seeing him go would be pleasing to you.

Genius! You’ve put your finger on it.

I mean, Tennant was great, but yes, now that Skald has pointed it out, I realize that I never quite stopped being irritated with him for displacing Eccleston, who remains my favorite Doctor.

I just don’t buy that…
River Song is Amy’s and Rory’s kid. I mean, I know that’s where the plot is taking us (to be honest, I can’t remember if it’s been revealed or not - it’s been speculated on for so long that I’m now taking it for granted. ), but none of River Song’s emotional reactions are of a woman who is supposedly meeting her parents and her actions around Rory give off no hint of guilt, sadness, or any negative vibe (except for a couple of speeches) about the fact that she’s, you know, talking to the father she knows she’s going to kill in his future.

And we don’t know if it’s the younger RS, the older RS, or whatever. I bet they chicken out and Rory dies trying to save RS, hence the “I killed a great/honorable/the best/whatever man.”

Think about it: You kill your dad. You then go back in the past to a time prior to your Dad’s death (by your hand!) and you act how…? Like River Song has acted?
If this is how the plot plays out, we’re suffering a bad acting job, a bad job of explaining the overall arc to the actors, or a bad plot.

I’m going to go with option C, mixed in with “We’re making it up as we go.”

(shrug) It explains a lot, ETA: without going into centuries of Canon to make it work.

Campers, ALL of Doctor Who is “making it up as we go along.” It’s been that way since we, and your British parents, were kids. Enjoy the ride and don’t look too closely.

Just saw the trailer for the next half of the series - holy fuck it looks AWESOME!!!

Everyone knows this already. That’s the whole point of the game. Trying to piece together a continuity to the series wouldn’t be half as much fun if the creators had intended it to be consistent.

I am ambivalent about Donna, I generally liked her, but when she

got turned into the sort of time lord brainiac I found her sort of really abrasive and obnoxious.

I did like the way they mind wiped her, and the Doctor emphasized to her mum and grand da how important she had been, and she should be treated with a bit more respect [by her mum at least]

I really liked her grand da.

Yeah, Wilf was a great character. I’d like to see him make a return at some point.

But if the Amy/River Song/Cracks/Silents will fall multi-series arc has all been “making it up as we go along” and does not actually fit somehow cohesively, isn’t actually all part of a planned out storyline, then it will be a huge disappointment. It may be true, but it will be very very disappointing. And I am expecting better from Moffat.

Weird that Planet of the Dead does not stream on Netflix. It is the only NuWho that doesn’t, except the current series(which I assume will stream when it hits DVD fully).

Just saw Matt Smith’s first episode.

Huh.

He’s different. And Amy Pond is a bit odd, too. I guess I’ll get used to it. He wasn’t bad or anything, just different.

There were a number of things that came up since Moffat took over that show he has done quite a lot of long-range planning. I agree that a whole lot of Who has been making it up as they go along, but I really don’t think that is the case now. Moffat clearly understands the story potential of time travel in general and characters interacting with their own time lines in particular.

As for Planet of the Dead, mentioned above, it’s probably the weakest of the Tennant specials. Which is kind of a funny thing to say since I can only remember The Next Doctor and Waters of Mars at the moment…

Think that’s a fairly normal reaction when starting a new doctor. However, after a couple of episodes, you can’t remember the old one any more.

I really did not like Matt Smith’s first season until it was over half way over. By the time it reached the half way mark I was cautiously optimistic, by the end of the season I had accepted him. I still don’t like him as much as either Tennant or Eccleston, but I like him ok. I also think the story telling got stronger at that point and he started to be his own Doctor and not a shell of Tennant. I liked the most recent season a whole lot.

Good news! Cablevisionwill now carry BBC-America!

I know that, but
the cause of the cracks was the TARDIS exploding, and when he takes the Pandorica and ends the explosion, he makes the cracks have not happened. He reboots the universe without the cracks. That’s why her parents are there in the house when Amy wakes up. That’s not the crack being closed, that’s the crack having not happened.

But it’s weird, because Rory still half remembers being the plastic centurion. So he remembers things that happened in the universe that didn’t. And Amy remembered The Doctor, and brought him back.

What do you mean, “it’s supposed to make sense”?
[River Song]
SPOILERS!
[/RS]

No, really, she’s just that good with keeping a lid on everyone’s future and her past.

I think before people start criticizing the acting or writing they need to keep in mind that we don’t know. Her time line is different from everyone else’s. We still haven’t seen her first meeting with The Doctor. Or with Rory and Amy for that matter.

Spoilers for Demon’s Run

Keep in mind that at Demon’s run, for example, it’s not like River said, “Sorry Rory, I can’t show up til later”. For River, she already DID show up. That’s why she couldn’t go with Rory right then and be at the battle, because she knew she’d be showing up at the end of it…and when she did show up (in her past) she wasn’t there in the first place. What she would be saying to Rory, if she didn’t have to avoid spoiling things, is “I can’t go there with you now because I’ve already been there, and I don’t show up til after it’s all over.”

If she screws it up and redirects them, her who existence could be rewritten, and for all we know her existence could be very important. If nothing else, it gets The Doctor a proper girl(heh)friend.
