When I get allergies my eyes sting. I thought allergies were caused by excess histamine, so what exactly is causing my eyes to sting? What is the chemical process that is leading to this? Is the histamine causing immune cells to congetrate in the eyes or something (similiar to a rash)?
On another note, do those ionic breeze things actually work to decrease airborne allergens?
IANAD or anything, but I think your guess on the histamines is logical. I wish I could remember where I saw it, but there have been comparisons of air purifiers and IIRC the Ionic Breeze model ranked quite low. But there are similar things that do remove a certain amount of dust, pollen, etc. from the air. The better ones have HEPA filters that have to be checked and replaced as needed.
