Why do asphalt roads appear reflective at shallow angles

When you are driving down the road sometimes it appears like a section that you are almost seeing head on is highly reflective. What causes this, Reflection off the slones thaT are flattened by traffic? the tar? some other reason?

It is caused by a temperature difference between the hot air near the pavement and the cooler air above that. The temperature difference causes light from the sky to bend up to reach your eyes due to the density difference between the hot and cooler air.

I am not sure if we are talking about the same thing but in hot weather the sun makes the road surface very hot and the temperature differential is high so you have air layers with different densities which causes refraction enough to bend the light upwards again.

This is the same fenomenom that causes mirages in the dessert.
