Why do I still feel so wiped after working out?

I workout in the morning, so the only thing I’ve been eating beforehand is a handful of nuts or granola before I head out. Washed down with some water, no sugary juice, coffee or anything else.

Post-workout I’ve gotten in the habit of making myself omelettes. Beyond that can get dicey. Sometimes I make a proper dinner for myself to take to work, sometimes it will just be making do with granola/fruit/snack bars/vending until I get home and eat something more substantial.

I have always been active and in good general health. In the last 5 years If I do strenuous work for several hours I feel totally wiped out. I feel drained, tired and probably a headache. All I can do is lay around till its time to go to bed. I am 45 now and weigh 165 and 6’ tall. It is not sleep or diet and I have been to the Dr. and I passed a stress test and had blood work up done and they didn’t find anything wrong. I go to the gym on a regular basis so its not because I am out of shape. I don’t think I should be feeling like this at my age. My Dad is 71 and he can do 2 hrs. in the gym and he is not complaining of these things.

Just a guess here, but you’re probably not in as good of shape as you think. Just going to the gym does not guarantee being in shape. Pumping iron is good, but it’s not going give you the endurance for several hours of hard work. Ditto for playing basketball for half an hour or so.

How much vigorous cardio exercise do you get each day? 15 minutes? half an hour? By vigorous, I mean your muscles are really pumping, you’re breathing hard and unable to sustain a conversation. Do you get any of that?

nm. this is a zombie.

I’m aware of that, but even zombies need to exercise and stay in shape. Otherwise they’ll just stagger and shamble around aimlessly.
