Lots of LCD computer monitors come in sizes of 12.1", 14.1, 15.4", etc. What’s that extra .1 or so inch for? If this generally only occured on notebooks, I could understand, because notebooks often have to conform to precise dimensions. But there are 20.1" and 21.3" desktop LCD monitors as well. To my recollection, CRTs never had this extra bit of screen space.
So why is this? Just a quark in the manufacturing process? Are those sizes easiest and cheaper to make for some reason? If so, then what is it?
Is it because of the fixed size resolution? But then they manufactures could shave off the extra .1" and make the pixel pitch slightly smaller.
