Why do Opthamologists generally wear glasses?

I wear glasses. All the opthamologists I’ve seen wear glasses. Anyone want to conjecture why? I can see a link between being far/nearsighted and thus being interested in the field, or being an opthamologist making one more sensitive to the needs of corrective lenses, but why not contacts?

That was true of my last eye doctor, but not my current.

She used to wear contacts, and then she got the LASIK eye surgery, so she definitely doesn’t wear glasses.

another reason that occurs to me is that they want to wear glasses to have the opthamologists version of “street cred.”
you know, the old “would you trust a guy to tell you about glasses who didn’t wear them himself?” logic. any eye docs here?

ophthalmologists

Hey, when I was a teenager, my orthodontist had the WORST buck teeth I had ever seen.

Maybe it’s sort of like crazy people becoming psychiatrists…

And YES, my ophthalmologists wear glasses too. (I’ve got two of them 'cos I’m especially blind!!)

Mine didn’t. I asked him about it once. He said his father and all his brothers wore glasses but he was fortunate enough not to need them. His dad was an ophthalmologist, too.

Do you have a Lens Crafters in your local mall?

I swear they have a policy where all staff has to wear glasses whether you need them or not. I’ve never seen a Lens Crafters that has had non-spectacled sales staff.

This is exactly why I’ve never particularly trusted pyschiatrists.
