OK, since this thread has veered way off of the OP’s question anyway, I may as well add my $.02.
When I managed a business in the late '80s, $2 bills were unlucky only to the extent that
*a)*There was no place for them in the standard 1-5-10-20 till, and
*b)*There was no place for them in my Daily Station Report bank deposit section.
So, I created my own superstition among my employees that it was bad luck to have a $2 bill in the till at the end of a shift. A superstition that I, as Manager, could actually help become fact (heh heh).
In any case, it was difficult to pass one off as change (“WTF is this?” or “Uh…could I get singles instead of this?” being the most heard customer responses), but if you didn’t want the Manager’s Curse you learned to pull it off as part of your job.
As for this:
I am curious as to where you heard this, 'cause I lived in Sin City for about 15 years, and I never saw a $2 bill there. In the gaming industry they’re more useless than dimes. Now quarters, they got tons of those. A’int never gonna run out of those in Vegas.
