When's the last time you saw a two dollar bill?

Are they completely out of circulation by now? I think it’s been about ten years since I’ve seen a $2.00 bill. Just curious.

A few days ago, when I stuck an wheat penny in my “oddball money” jar. I have a couple of twos in there.

As for “seen one in circulation”, it’s been six or seven years. I got one as change in a bar a long while back.

I had to pay up a wager in the form of a $2 bill not long ago. My bank had none in their entire office, the next bank I went to had one that was slightly torn. Something tells me they ain’t too popular.

If you visit Thomas Jefferson’s home, Monticello, and pay cash for a ticket or souvenirs, you’ll receive at least some of your change in $2 bills if you have at least two bucks coming back to you.

I haven’t seen one in years, although I never did unless I asked for them at the bank, and then only if the bank had them.

I have a US two-dollar bill in my Collection Of Foreign Money drawer. I have not seen a Canadian two-dollar bill in years, except at coin shops.

I see them all the time as a cashier. At least once every couple of weeks. I have one semi-regular customer who always pays for 20 bucks worth of gas with all twos. They are still printing them, you know… as recently as September, 2006.

Joe

I get them from the same place I get most other bills. At the bank. They’ve got tons of 'em, and I use twos every day.

However, I think it is a mistake to put a Where’s George note on a two, as they don’t get circulated as much as other denominations. People tend to hoard them, thinking they’re rare. Or waitresses tell me that every two or dollar coin they get goes into their nephew’s savings bank.

I keep one in my wallet that I received as change about 8 years ago. Apparently my husband also keeps one tucked in his wallet- something we never knew about eachother until recently!

I used to work a register, so I’d see them occationally. If they were in good shape (htey usually were) I’d buy them from the store and take home to my wife who collects them.
I have seen any for a year or so, but I could go gaze upon her stash if I wanted to.

I got one two weeks ago as change when I was doing business at the courthouse. The cashier told me that someone had come in and paid with a bunch of them, so she was trying to get rid of them.

It was fine by me; they spend just fine. Except my wife has decided to confiscate mine as she’s rather fond fond of them. So my wallet is now two dollars lighter.

Every day. A cow-orker of mine has one stuck to the side of his tower with a refrigerator magnet.

Every week. My husband, who works in the banking industry, brings them and Sacajewas home to pay the kids allowance, and for spending cash for us. He loves them. I apologize to clerks when I have to use them (he REALLY loves them). I think he may be the sole reason they still circulate in Cook County.

I have a Canadian one dollar bill and a Canadian two dollar bill at home somewhere. I actually had no idea two dollar bills were rare in the US, despite living about 20 minutes away from the border and travelling to the States maybe once or twice a week. Not to mention all of the tourists that paid in US cash at the restaurant where I work. I guess it never crossed my mind to notice, although now that I think about it, I can’t recall anyone using one.

Standard Snopes Link for this topic.

I got one in the mail a couple weeks ago - brand new and so crisp it almost looks fake - as a “thank you” for doing some sort of survey.

Heh. We have a family friend who gets dozens of them from the bank, and gives them out in Christmas cards, etc. A couple of months ago, we had a guy in doing some work on the house and he noticed a $2.00 on the end table, and asked if he could “buy” it from me for two $1.00 bills. I told him sure, but after he left, I got wondering if I should have tried to charge him $3.00 for it. :stuck_out_tongue: (I wouldn’t really do that, I’d feel guilty; but the thought was there anyway).

At any rate, in answer to the OP, we tend to have them around on account of this friend. A couple of years ago when money was really tight, I started spending them on stuff we needed, like a gallon of milk or a loaf of bread.

I always have a couple around, just to use to mess with people when I feel the need to. Strippers remember you when you tip with twos!

I read somewhere how a West Coast city (San Diego?) had a wave of objections to Navy sailors coming into town on shore leave, to which the Admiral responded by instructing that all sailors and Navy personnel have their paychecks cashed in $2 bills for one payday. When the $2 bills began circulating through every store and household in town, it became apparent how much impact the Navy had on the local economy, and the objections went away.

It smells like an Urban Legend but it is still a brilliant way to handle a situation like that!

I got a $2 bill in change about a year ago, but only because I spotted it in the drawer while getting change from a coffee shop and specifically asked for it. I also do this for Sackies (I haven’t seen any of the Gold Presidents yet). The cashiers are generally all too happy to pass them along, as they don’t have designated tray slots for the oddball denominations.

I have one on my fridge but I got it a few months ago as change when I bought smigs
