I am not elfkin, nor do I play her on TV, but I think maybe she parsed “By the time they really want meat - around 2 or 3, IME - they’re old enough to eat what the rest of the family is eaten” as saying that 2 or 3 is when they start eating what the rest of the family is.
Which I’m pretty sure is not what you were actually saying there
OH! I get it now. Yes…er…no, that is. Babies can start eating the same food as their parents from 6 months on, although it might need to be pureed or smooshed with a fork at first. My kids never had jarred baby food (with three exceptions, neither of which went well) not because I’m Supermom or anything. Just because, well, see aforementioned post for evidence that I’m lazy and cheap!
Of those who do it, most people start relaxing the “introduce one food at a time” rule by 18 months, or whenever the most common allergens have been ruled out. Most kids are grabbing at the pizza by that point, if not sooner.
Most kids seem indifferent to meat, in my experience, until 2 or 3. Before that, they’re notorious carb fiends, and most have been eating real food for a while. Baby food’s been out of the picture for a while at that point.
Hope that’s clearer. Sorry for being so dense today.
