To me, the above facts just confirm that we don’t really know what these very few tests of functionally asymptomatic people with positive antibodies really mean.
Although it is not personally an important issue to me, I think opening up schools should be done more quickly than many are prepared to do. In Canada, the leader of Quebec (a French province with, by far, the highest caseload in Canada, mostly in Montreal) was crucified when he discussed what I thought was a possible plan to open schools - which are now closed until September. Certainly I understand many parents are apprehensive and some factors are unknown. But the excuse that people cannot learn enough in a short time (June, when the year normally ends) seems to me a reason to extend classes into the summer this year. The harms of not educating are not discussed much here. I agree with The Economist that these costs are very substantial. Of course local risks and concerns may vary.
