I’m on a diet and have been for almost a year losing on average about a pound week. When I wake up I’m rarely hungry but I will drink some coffee and eat some oatmeal or have a protein shake. Get somewhat hungry for lunch and dinner and eating satisfies that. In the evening, sitting and surfing the web my appetite goes into overdrive and I could eat the world. I have to force myself not to eat until I go to bed. It’s a big struggle.
Why does the body do this? Why does your appetite spin into overdrive at night when your waking energy output is lowest?
When you’re active during the day, there are many distractions your brain has to focus on.
Bed time, you’re really not getting the same amount of sensory input, so what does get picked up is the center of attention. It can be overcome using some mental discipline to block it out with other thoughts.
Could there be an imbalance in your ghrelin/leptin hormones? I don’t know much about it but I heard on a podcast that the leptin hormone is supposed to supress your appetite while you sleep. Ghrelin is what makes you hungry.
Sleep beats the crap out of my hunger. I am rarely hungry when waking even if I went to bed hungry. The big uptick in hunger while resting is what’s puzzling to me.
