Why would anyone care whether or not we like or dislike the British royalty? Does it affect the British public in some way? I am baffled.
Well, duh.
They don’t want the CIA to turn the mind-control rays on the British public and make them all anti-monarchist and stuff.
(though from what I can gather online, that’s how it pretty much is already.)
That’s why I asked. I have no clue. I’m sure Camilla doesn’t give a flaming rat’s ass one way or another.
Hell - people here still haven’t forgiven Yoko…I don’t think Camilla stands a chance of getting people to look past Diana.
Well, this American wasn’t impressed with Diana at all, if that means anything. I saw her as shallow and spoiled and actually enjoyed reading Prince Charles’ speeches about architecture and politics.
Not that he isn’t pretty weird about it sometimes…
My guess would be money. Tourism, especially from America, is a huge percentage of the GDP there, and surveys of tourists show that the main reason they come is the royal family. This may strike you as insane, but it is true. They don’t need Americans to love Camilla, but they do need us to be at least neutral about her, so we continue to want to visit that quaint place with the queen and all those other titled people who have such splendid weddings.
All I can say is that she does a lousy job of selling herself.
Not that Charles is any good at PR, either.
We don’t have to love her–we don’t have 1000 years of monarchy to look at.
So, Camilla. I think Charles has lousy taste-who would ever want to be Camilla’s tampon? (TMI from a Royal, BTW–they’re supposed to look good and act well, royal!)
My guess is roger had a slip of the fingers and meant to type “…like jfranhchi’s Mom…” referring to your royal-crazy Aunt you mentioned in a previous post.
Couldn’t they employ a flunkey to read the maps for them?
Wait, I’m now immensely confused. Where’d the Germans and Greeks come from?
(anyone replying “Germany and Greece” gets smacked. You know what I mean - why are we now talking about Germans and Greeks?)
Refers to the generally German origins of the royal family (it was, what, the House of Saxe-Coburg-Gotha before they change to Windsor because of anti-German feeling in World War I?) and the Greek antecedents of Prince Philip.
As to the OP; um, wild guess here, but maybe old Charles doesn’t particularly enjoy reading lots of articles in the press which are openly critical of the woman he’s married? Some people just like to be liked, you know. Needn’t be any more complicated than that …
Philip was born Prince Philip of Greece, grandson of King George I of Greece.
The current British royal family are descended from the House of Hanover- so are often humorously referred to as the Germans. Prince Philip was a Prince of Greece (though of Danish descent) and is humorously known as Phil the Greek.
