I thought that movie was funny as hell and I’m going on thirty-one.
For me though it was the fact that they played on alot of the teen movies from when I was a teen.
The breakfast club scene was the best. They did a great job of it and I about died when the orinal principle cameoed.
My friends teens saw it and I was suprised they got alot of it because of that fact. But then again my teen had to tell me where a few of the scenes came from since they were newer teen movies that I hadn’t seen.
As for not seeing the movie originally intended to see…I hate when that happens.
You get your mind set to see something and then end up seeing another movie by group choice and being out numbered or being a bit late or sold out of whatever and the movie you end up seeing is going to suck no matter what.
Disappointment is a bitch.
Teens are perhaps the most ignorant, self-important group of people on the entire planet. Naturally, a poorly written film about prom or high school football will cater to that. Teens have been bred by this new feel-good education system that came up with such awful catch phrases as “the children are our future,” and have therefore developed the conceit of thinking they’re important. The only thing most of them care about is their high school social life. So the movies give them a comedy about that petty and uninteresting area of life to which they best relate.
The vast majority of teens only relate to world issues on the infantile level of “Gee, guys, we better stop logging in the rainforest, there are, like, lots of species and stuff in there.” Further, because being dumped by their junior-year girlfriend was a “life-altering event” in thier minds, they haven’t the capacity for more mature emotional thought. So the studios can’t give teens a string of movies about emotional, political, or philosophical issues. What’s left? Gross-out comedies and sweet sixteen parties. When teens mature, their tastes improve and they go to the good films like the rest of us.
Yes… “Go” (not really a “teen movie” much at all)
And “Ghost Word” (maybe closer to a “teen movie”, but this teen movie isn’t for the mindless audience of most other teen movies… in fact, it seemed to be tailored for those who can smirk at those types of people.)
Have you considered auditioning for the part of the principal in the latest remake of Ferris Bueller’s Day Off?
Seriously, and with all due respect, you remind me of a quote from The Big Lebowski, “No, you’re not wrong [RexDart], you’re just an asshole!” I don’t mean this as an attack, and if the word asshole offends you, I apologize. It was, despite the word ‘seriously’ at the beginning, intended as a joke.
What I’m trying to say is that while I agree that the majority of teen movies are pretty inane, this doesn’t necessarily reflect on the intelligence of the people who like the movies. Teens may be self-important, but they are also very insecure (at least that’s what I remember and what I percieve in others). The self-importance in teen movies can be extremely gratifying to many teens.
I can’t defend crappy movies, and there are plenty of crappy teen movies, but there are a number of teen movies that are pretty good. Many good teen movies are good for teens but less so for adults, this doesn’t make them inferior, just different.
Sorry, I was just looking into the whole teen movie thing and I had searched the boards for threads on the subject and this one came up. After I posted it did occur to me that maybe the thread was fairly old, I didn’t realize it was a year old. I agree it is a little ridiculous.
Actually, I think Juanita Tech did a better job of implying that I’m an asshole with that sarcastic comment “were you having trouble finding a recent offensive remark?” I assume if either of you wanted to continue in this vein, you’d know where to take it, rather than commit forum necromancy on a 15 month old CS thread about movies from last summer.
Upon rereading my comment, I could see how one could arrive a such a conclusion. I wasn’t implying you’re an asshole. Honestly, I don’t know one way or the other.
