We don’t allow post count parties because, hey, they’re lame. And people use them to pad their count, they’re a waste of bandwidth, etc. We minimize game threads because they tend to go on and on, and they’re kind of a waste of bandwidth and, by the end, it’s usually the same people over and over. Oh, and people use them to pad their count.
So why are threads like this one still allowed? This thread shares all of the above mentioned… ahem, qualities with the Naughty Threads, yet there it is.
This is not to say I’ve never been involved with any of the above mentioned thread types. I’m just wondering, is all.
I here ya S/F they seem to be a waste of space. But if every thread were closed due to the pointlessness of the content, there wouldn’t be many threads would there?
I admit that I am guilty of adding my own useless chatter to the one you linked. Speaking for myself only of course, it provides me a way to simply forget some of the more pressing things on my mind. You might notice the times posted on many of these threads, esp. mine. I should be sleeping right now. But since I can’t, I have been posting in MPSIMS for fun.
Sorry if it isn’t the best use of bandwidth However, it’s not like we’re on a rant or purposely trying to hurt each other.
If someone was really worried about it then I expect a moderator would’ve locked it down long ago. I guess I’ll just let it die in peace…I’m done with it.
There have been genuinely futile “whoever posts last killed this thread” type of threads before that have met with the blade of the mod’s axe before now, IIRC. That one, though, seems just a bit of a trip into surreality, going by the last page.
If still it lives to gather more posts, either the mods don’t mind, or they don’t know.

I think maybe it’s because I’m bitter. I recently hit 4,000 posts and wasn’t able to celebrate it.
I must apologize. I didn’t mean to be padding my post counts. I was just enjoying being friendly and funny with some people. I was hoping I was making friends. I’m not trying to sound pathetic here either, I just realize from reading this thread that I suppose what I was doing was wrong. The whole idea of posting in an internet forum is a new idea to me. I’ll try harder to stick to the straight and narrow and not make too many pointless posts. But knowing me, that’s a tall order.

You know I got to thinking about it S/F and for you to even post this under the pretense of being curious is just messed up. You say…" I don’t care where or what you post". Then you link to it. Next minute a mod shows up (obviously notified directly or by seeing this thread) and the thread (or members) you should’ve just pitted is almost immediately closed.
On top of that, you then admit to participating in similar threads.
No problem with the staff’s decision…understood. But it seems a bit hypocritical and insincere on your part, don’t you think?
Now the fact that it didn’t last long enough is another point of ridicule and a possible debate in itself. Wimps indeed…
I think there’s nothing wrong with threads like these, as long as they are not popping up with any more frequency than once every 2-3 months. It’s a pleasant diversion and it allows some free-form Doper creativity which it’s harder to elicit in most of the threads on the board.
I believe the mods would silently agree with me, and that’s why the threads are allowed to exist openly and have a nice long run now and then.
I could be wrong, though. It’s been known to happen.

One thing, though, why does this accusation of post count padding always come up? Is anyone ever actually saying to themselves, “I want a larger number of posts, so I am going to post to this thread.” ? I doubt it. I, for one, would be just as happy if we didn’t have post counts. In fact, on my own board, I have disabled it.
It’s because I have the adminstration of this board on puppet strings and they bend to my will.
But really, whatever. It wasn’t worth a pitting and, frankly, I’m just not that worked up about it. I was questioning the consistency (or lack thereof) of the board rules, nothing more. Fact is, I honestly don’t care where or what you post. I just can’t see the difference between a Thread Killer thread and a post count party thread. If you think I’m being hypocritical or insincere… :shrugs: Yeah, I’ve posted to similar threads. But I wasn’t saying anything about the people who posted in that thread. Again, I was merely questioning the consistency of the board policies. If you can’t buy that, that’s your deal and there’s just not a whole bunch I can do about it.

S/F don’t sweat it bud… sometimes I say shit I don’t mean to…or they don’t come out the way I meant. I’d rather just have a few friends and not worry about the petty bullshit that sometimes clutters the boards. No offense intended. I just have some really fucked up issues to deal with at home and I take my frustrations out on the foks around me. Sorry about that.
