Morticia, any Morticia, is hot.
Have to agree.
before The Simpsons they were the best depiction of a typical family.
Was there a more openly erotic relationship on network television (at the time) than between Gomez and Morticia? They not only had sexual relations, they had sexual relations that were presumably kinky as hell, and were the product of obsessive, unwavering love.
That’s enough reason to like the show.
However, you couldn’t really have an ongoing series if the characters had been the casual, but loveable, monsters that were in Charles Addams cartoons.
In the maybe most famous cartoon image, Gomez cheerfully directs the pouring of boiling oil upon a group of unsuspecting carolers. Obviously there can’t be a logical follow-up to that action other Gomez being arrested and incarcerated for attempted murder. As a snapshot image though, it’s very funny.
Some comedies are funny ha-ha, and some comedies are funny weird. The Munsters aspired to both and (for me) failed at both. The Addams family aspired to funny weird and occasionally succeeded.
It made people feel comfortable with their own “eccentricities”.
Wednesday is potentially hot.
I’ve said before I was Wednesday. In spirit anyway. And I’m hot. Or at least still attractive at my age now. Very very pale (that really helps you look young), threatening to shoot myself in public in the office where people can hear, etc. A con-goer remarked to my face that I in no way looked like a scifi fan at all. At work I’m a non religious person in a throng of bible beaters. They don’t know that yet. I eagerly and cautiously await the day they find that out. I slept with a stuffed animal that was torn apart, until my mother finally fixed it. Badly. By buying me a new one.
If I am not the real Wednesday, I invite anyone to one-up me. Just don’t say you sleep with a beheaded doll.
Ah yes, Marie Antoinette!
Hel-LO, Sister!
Hey, Wednesday was, and is, my age. No perviness implied.
Your previous description should equal “I fit right in.”
ETA: Except, of course, that you are a girl.
Pics or you didn’t happen.
Reading this thread inspired me to watch the Addams Family on Hulu some, but it seems they took it down. Weia, weia!
I hope this is a whoosh…
it was Grampa & Lily Munster.
And funny. She slays me.
That is disgusting, perverted, wrong, and deeply disturbing.
I like it!
I believe that scene was in the first movie, along with representations of a lot of the other famous cartoons.
I have three Addams collections, and I have the CDs with all New Yorker cartoons, so I need to look at these again.
I dont see anyone saying they are Pugsly.
Nope. Fans never styles themselves as anybody but Wednesday, Morticia, (or much less frequently than either) Gomez.
This is actually funny when you consider that Gomez, for example, was considered by others and himself as less of a desirable bachelor than Fester in their younger days. Fans don’t want to be somebody the Addamses themselves would think was hot and cool. They want to be an Addams that a norm would consider hot and cool. This is why they can never really, truly be like their “role models.”
People want to be Wednesday, Morticia and Gomez because they want the lives they have. Family acceptance, kinky hot spouses, success, model trains, and so on.
Fester was a lonely guy living in his brothers’ basement, playing with science project, and Pugsley was Wednesday’s vastly more boring, chubby brother. That’s not wish-fulfillment material.

Sadly, many don’t have to imagine that at all . . .
I’ve tried to put that behind me.
