I disagree with the main premise of the thread. It is my experience that wing-nuts don’t post and run, but instead come back to defend themselves until everyone is sick and tired of it and some mod closes the thread out of mercy. However, it has been my experience that wing-nuts tend to be confined to one or two threads. Why? Well, there are two different types of wing-nuts, and thus two different reasons:

The Issues guy. This is someone who is mostly sane. Talk about most topics, and he tends to be pretty considerate and reasonable. But there’s this one issue that he’s just a complete nutcase about. For some, like ivan astikov, that issue is 9/11. But it need not be a crazy conspiracy theory. It could be Wind power (Sam Stone), Peak Oil (adhey), abortion (Der Trihs), or any sort of issue. All of the people I named can be perfectly reasonable people, and I have some respect for all of them. But when it comes to their issue, they’re nuts. That’s why they only seem to appear in one or two threads–because you just don’t remember them in the others.

The Gospel guy. This guy is a total wing-nut. He has found his Just Cause, and he feels that the best possible use of his time is to tell everyone about it. As such, he hops from forum to forum, hoping that the next one will be less rejectful of his crazy beliefs. The reason they only stay in one or two threads is because they don’t care about discussing anything other than their Cause. Examples: That Ron Paul thread, the “All European Nobles were Black” guy, and so on.
I was using hyperbole. My OP was a cut and paste (with a few changes) of a GD thread in which the OP, pkbites, made sweeping generalizations about libruls and then failed to participate any further in the debate.
The truth hurts, don’t it? But you can call me anything you like - as long as you actually leave, it’d be well worth it!
Sam is a nut about wind power? I ask merely for my own edification, as I don’t remember seeing him particularly nutty on that. Der I’d say any issue related to the US or religion…other than that, he’s pretty reasonable. But adhey…I think he IS crazy. And Ivan…
Ah, well, that’s good then. I was rather embarrassed for you (I often am, seeing your posts), but maybe you are often scraping the bottom of the barrel (or bottom row I guess) when you reply in general on this board? That would explain it…
Or, using Occam (granted, from the various threads I’ve seen you in, not a metric you generally employ), you might just be an idiot. It could go either way, I’m thinking, but the simplest explanation and all that…
