Why Do You Live Where You Live?

I’m single and could live anywhere. Because I
am HUGE into musical theatre, I live in New
Jersey, a 30 minute bus ride from Broadway.
It’s either there, London or Germany.

And I live just around the corner…

In fact, I was born here. Lucky me!

I have lived in the same city since I was 9 years old.
The only time I moved was a year of university 2 hours away.

Why do I stay? Well I suppose I like it here, I would miss my family and friends. I like my job.

I think about moving out west sometimes… so you never know

I live in Michigan. I was born & raised here. I can’t honestly say that I love it, but almost all of my family is here, so I’m not leaving any time soon.

How did I end up in Flint? That’s another story. I was actually born here in Flint. Almost all of my mom’s family is here. I was raised in various small towns around Ann Arbor, and eventually ended up moving to Ann Arbor myself (Cranky is right–Ann Arbor is great). But then my first husband and I divorced, and I ended up with an abusive alcoholic, who moved me to Eau Claire, Wisconsin, a lovely city in itself. I lived there for three whole weeks before I decided I was sick of his crap, and decided to get out. But I had nowhere to go, and I was afraid of him, so I decided to go someplace where he wouldn’t find me. But I didn’t want to be totally alone. That left one place–Flint. I couldn’t move back in with my mom or dad, because the abusive guy knew where both of them lived. He didn’t know where my other family lived, though, so I knew I’d be safe here.

That was nine years ago.

Five and a half years ago, I met the man who would become my second husband. Shortly after that, I got a really great job with the City of Flint. I now have two beautiful kids, my own car, and three months ago, I bought the house that my great-grandparents bought new in 1929–in Flint.

So, while Flint itself is not one of the finest cities in the world, the finest stuff in my life has happened to me here. So I imagine I’ll stay here a while. There’s only two other places I’d consider living if I had the choice–Ann Arbor or Tennessee. Tennessee is beautiful, and it has an awesome music scene, good for my musician husband.

I was born in the tri-cities in Washington. A year later my parents moved to the Bay-Area-California. I lived there for 14 years, grew up there and had lots of friends.

During the last recession (93-94) my parents decided to get out of California and move to Virginia. My dad fell in love with this house we now live in. And here I’ve been here for 6 years. It’s ok, I’m pretty used to it now, but it was a big culture shock for me when we first came here (to Richmond). People here have a lil different MO than the Cali-folk. The thing that gets me most is the weather here, which is very random. For example, this Summer we’ve had a lot of rain and mostly grey overcast days----bummer. I love sunny days and they have been a rarity here as of late.

Anyways, I’m working on a BS in Computer Science. I have taken roughly half the degree in transfer classes at local community colleges. And in the Spring I will probibly be over at Virginia Tech. (working on my degree) on the other side of the state. I wonder how the weather is over there.

The 'burbs north of Boston. Came here because that’s where the job was. It’s…OK, if you’re a fan of beaches, Colonial architecture, fried clams, narrow roads, mosquitos, high real estate prices, and clueless drivers. Where I’m located is just far enough from Boston to make going into the city more trouble than it’s worth (more because of traffic than distance), doesn’t have enough good bookstores, and has no good hills to hike. I actually live in a coastal town, but it’s all salt marshes, so there’s no town beach access :-(. On the plus side, it’s reasonably rural with some nice conservation areas, and a low crime rate.
But until I finish remodeling the house and buy a sea kayak, there ain’t damn-all to do around here.

If I won the lottery, would I stay here? About as long as it would take to drive the For Sale sign into the ground.

Middletown, Ohio checking in here. So named because it’s the town in the middle between Cincinnati and Dayton. Original, Huh?

I was born here, and all my family live nearby. I stay here because I haven’t found a good enough reason to leave. I have traveled all over these United States, and there have been a few places that were very hard to leave like, Key West, Lansing, MI(where my daughter lives), Cape May, NJ. Daytona Beach, to name a few.

But, I love it here in the midwest. The weather is moderate, seasons change, the area is beautiful rolling farmland. The cost of living is reasonable. The traffic is uncongested. I can get anything I want as far as consumer goods. I am only 30 minutes from the closest airport, stadium, casino, and I can travel wherever I want. Also the crime rate is relatively low.

The only drawback is the conservative nature of many of our local government and politicians. But, with proper voting, it’s getting better.

Born and raised in a suburb of Los Angeles. I live here because my friends and family live here, and because I already have an established job here. I haven’t had any real reason to move somewhere else. I guess I would move though if my job moved, granted it was a location of my liking.
