Why do you post on the Straight Dope Message Board?

I’ve said all I’m permitted to say.

Because it validates my existence.

My sad, sad existence.

It is a place of inconsequential amusement . Some of the conversations are interesting and some of the people here are fun.

This. Plus, boredom.

Sometimes I feel like I’ve been in this relationship so long, it would be sad to leave. I do enjoy getting news and commentary from posters here. I find it’s a “catch-all” for what’s happening in the world. I’ll start here and move out into other sites as stuff develops. Also, there’s a certain amount of getting to know people, while still controlling your degree of anonymity.

Plus I hear you get a free sub once you hit 25,000 posts, and I’m too stubborn to quit this far in.

The sub is a lie.

kayaker recruited me. I then recruited two posters who, in turn, each recruited two posters, etc. kayaker gets a cut of each.

“I’ve got nowhere else to go!.. I’ve got nowhere else to go.”

It’s a well managed place with a bunch of like minded individuals. I learn new things all the time. And I want to pay back by adding some stuff that others might not know.

And I get some social stuff in as well. That never hurts in modest quantities.

And it keeps my on my toes. Else I’d be typing “it’s” for the possessive 10 times more often than I do now.

All of the above.

It was true a long time ago, but by the time I hit that mark all I got was a stale bag of Sun Chips.

How could you tell?

To provide a different perspective to a place that desperately needs it, and to have my own thoughts / ideas / arguments tested by people who disagree with them. All in a place with good moderation that keeps most discussions from becoming pointless exchanges of insults.

это не сложно, но вы должны знать правильных людей.

I come here to argue and disagree, because that can be lots of fun. IMO the Dope is the big leagues for arguments and disagreements. The arguments I see on Facebook and other social media are mostly tiddlywinks compared to the Dope.

I also come here to share stuff with other smart people and discuss food, entertainment, sports, etc.

Shouldn’t that be “Hear me nitpick: painstakingly”

breaks down in tears IT WAS YOU ! I LEARNED IT FROM YOU !

“Hear me nitpick: painstakingly.”

Obviously not. A colon is only to be used when introducing either a citation ; a list ; or an enumeration of multiple disparate elements. Otherwise a comma suffices to separate clauses and/or sub-clauses. adjusts pince-nez in preparation forrrr aaaaa rrrrrrrumble

I post so much because I have a job that consists largely of sitting in front of a computer waiting in case something happens, and I can’t really read a book or watch movies while waiting. It helps pass the long hours.
