Why are criminals who have been sentenced to death segregated from the general prison population and kept in isolation in a special section of the prison known as “Death Row”? What’s the point? And isn’t it cruel and unusual punishment? Such convicts often have to wait years for their executions – and in some cases their sentences are overtuned on appeal and they are never executed.
A man sentenced to death who is allowed to reside in “Gen Pop” would have no insentive not to kill or hurt anyone who looked at him crosseyed.
Makes a lot of sense to me.
As for cruel and unusual, that could be overcome by executions being carried out immediately upon sentencing. Somehow I doubt you’re proposing that. Seems like a reasonable accomodation to a bad situation.
BTW, I am not a death penalty supporter.
