We both have relatively new iPhones, but we’ve noticed that her battery drains really quickly compared to mine.
I’ve opened the “Privacy - Location” section on her phone and turned off the automatic location for most things, and switched others to “only when app in use”, but it still seems to happen.
Perhaps her iPhone has more on-going processes … if she doesn’t quit an app, then the app keeps running drawing energy from the battery. I have that problem with the YouTube app, I have to explicitly quit the thing or it will drain my battery to nothing.
Go into settings > battery. It will tell you the battery usage. You can use that info to your advantage. Other than that, lowering the brightness will also conserve battery as well as turning on “low power mode”.
Also, battery is drained by the following activities, listed from most to least: GPS navigation, 3d games, 2d games, data on wifi, phone, video, apps in general, data on LTE, audio.
It could also have to do with where the phone is being carried or stored. If it’s far from the nearest cell tower or in an area that doesn’t get good reception, the phone will use more power to keep in contact with the tower. I live in a semi-basement with generally poor reception and I’m still trying to find the place in it that gets the best reception. If I put it down in the wrong spot, it’ll drain the battery in no time.
Yes, but we’re spending the days together, going the same places, yet her iPhone is usually dying by noon, but mine is still good at 5 pm. So it’s not geography or buildings that is causing it.
Went to the battery settings. The biggest drain is Netflix, but that’s at the end of the day, not when we’re out and about. Second biggest is Safari, which isn’t games. I’ve turned off all the GPS functions that don’t need to be on. Will see if it makes a difference tomorrow. Thanks for the comments, everyone.
I’ve noticed basically once a week my phone will have a massive power usage day where it uses twice as much power as normal, where normally I’d end the day at 50% power those days I end the day with 20% or lower power despite not doing anything different that day as well as it happening completely random. I just assume some days the phone just springs an energy leak.
A fully charged iPhone is dying by noon? That doesn’t seem anywhere near right to me unless you’re continually streaming something or on the phone. Do you have the same carrier? (I ask just in case her phone is constantly hunting for a network in a place where your phone isn’t.) Other than that, I don’t know. If you both have the same iPhone, I suppose you can both reset your phones by hitting the home button along with the reset/wake button (the one on the top). Then when it reboots, put both phones into airplane mode and track your battery power. Of course, this means both of you won’t be able to receive calls, but you can do it in the middle of the night and see if there is a significant difference between the two phones in five or six hours.
First thought: new/defective battery. Modern LION batteries start to die from the moment of manufacture. If an old one was put into the phone by mistake, it would act as described.
Though I haven’t read of any problematic Apple batteries, I’ve run into all sorts of problems in other devices. I doubt that Apple makes it’s own batteries, so I would expect it’s subcontractor to have bad batches every now and then, as anyone does.
She may be using different apps than you are. Leaving something like Google Maps open, or even a weather app will result in battery drain. Try having her close absolutely everything that she isn’t using at that moment (close it all the way) and see if that helps. Make a note of apps that she’s using that you aren’t and see if there are any differences.
I support dozens of iPhones at work. Every now and then one has a bad battery and has to be replaced by warranty with the carrier. The details of malfunction vary widely, it seems like it’s always something different.
If this phone is relatively new (and under warranty) and performance is remarkably worse than the other phone then call your wireless carrier and see what they can do.
