Why does my rabbit lick my face?

especially my nose?

Are you sure the rabbit isn’t tasting you instead? Trying to decide if maybe he wants to eat you or not?

Because you taste like a rabbit pellet. Especially your nose.

I’m sorry, that wasn’t polite. The real answer is that you have either grease (in the form of body oil probably) or salt on your face. Especially your nose. Or else you have had your mouth on the old carrot again and the rabbit smells it.

He only does this to people he knows for a long time who are nice to him. Is this some sort of affection?

My ex-rabbit used to lick the grease off my bicycle chain. She also used to run up to me from across the room and bite me on the toe without warning. Chewed every electrical wire in the house. Destroyed walls and carpets. And was generally unpleasant to my friends.

God I miss her.

I am currently down to three rabbits(go figure :stuck_out_tongue: ) but in the past I’ve had up to 16 at a time. The ones that got the most handling and attention almost all licked me.My oldest bun,Mopsy, also likes to lick my eyelids and across my forehead.

Douglips:Yup, been there.Nearly every hanging cord in my house is now spliced together. They sure are sneaky, aren’t they?

Wonderful furbabies.

Because you’re salty and delicious. Take pride in it.

My little brother’s rabbit has been known to eat cat.5 cables and entire plastic bowls.

““The real answer is that you have either grease (in the form of body oil probably) or salt on your face.””

Nope. A rabbit that is fed an adequate diet does not need extra salt (or, um, grease).

from House Rabbit Society | Buy a Bunny a Little Time

douglips: umm, well, that’s not exactly the safest thing for your (ex) bunny. next time, try taking a look at FAQ: Rabbit Proofing .

The House Rabbit Society’s webpage is great for all your rabbit needs

I brought my bunny to work today (I’m heading to Wisconsin, so I’m leaving him w/ a co-worker), so this is a timely topic for me. (BTW, the wild rabbits in my back yard had babies, and the little babies have been hopping around the yard – very cute :D.)

I think the bunny thinks you taste good.

AndYrAStar, thanks for the rabbit-proofing web site. I needed it this past week, but, thankfully, the bunny’s okay.

One of my rabbits has mites. Nuts. I wouldn’t let my rabbit lick my nose, not that I let them get that close cause have you seen how sharp their teeth & claws are?
