I’m sure it is some sort of “hot key”, but how do I turn it off? While I’m at it, the “.” key over on the right with the numbers brings up the “Search” screen also, and I’d like that to stop as well.
I’m on Windows XP if that helps at all.
Please, cure my insanity…please.

Use Ctrl-Alt-Del to see if you can identify any of the processes running to be the culprit.
Have you installed any multimedia keyboard software ?
Using the combination, the only thing that comes up is my IE and AOL.
Nope
I’ve never had this happen before, and it’s rather irritating, lol. Thanks, and keep the help coming.
Try hitting Ctrl + Alt + Del and then selecting the “Processes” Tab.
Ok, under that tab there are tons of stuff. How do I know which one it is that might be causing my problem?
Try banging on the Alt and Ctrl keys individually. I’ve seen this happen before, and it’s like one of them is stuck.
Rucksinator is probably right. Stuck keys will cause all kinds of whacky stuff to happen.
You might try getting a can of air and cleaning out your keyboard. If that doesn’t work try another keyboard.
