Usually in evolution, things happen for a reason. So what’s the benefit?
In a related question(s) are all mammals wired this way? All vertebrates? All (non radially symmetrical) animals?
Awaiting enlightment,

This means only left-handed people are in their right minds
BTW, I’m a lefty.
I was just about to give up searching when I found…
Why does the left side of the brain in humans control the opposite side of the body?
The answer seems to be unknown as of yet.
Apparently, all vertebrates are wired like this.
Thanks, Alpha.
I feel strangely … unenlightened. If Unca Cece would just get cracking, I’m sure he could clear this up.
Would somebody please explain to him that eliminating world hunger is not as important as answering my questions?

This is a wild guess. There is no wilder. Less-wild guessers they call it “Sire”.
All our nerves snake their way down through our spinal chords. Going from right hemisphere to neck to left side of body involves fewer turns, than going from right hemisphere to neck to right side of body would. Maybe when twisting and stretching your neck, some of your nerves would be more likely to get pinched or yanked or other bad stuff.
It’s probably bogus, since spinal tissue seems to be so dense anyway. It’s funny, in all my time as a fresh-fly neurology dilletante, I’ve never even thought of this question. What WAS I thinking of? Stuff about neurotransmitters I guess.
