I don’t agree with 99% of the shit you post, but I don’t want you to leave. If nothing else, some libtards like me might possibly understand how you think and there’s value in that.
…well I ended up quitting that other message board. But that was because real life took over, and not as a result of being marginalised. But no: I don’t expect that someone in that position would quit. Many do and many have. But why would you expect everyone in that position to quit? Bricker and Shodan and Starving are all still here.
Again: this surprises you? I don’t see why it should. “Snark free” is a subjective term. I don’t see that many “snark free” questions directed at Clothahump, and even if there were, he isn’t a monkey, and isn’t required to respond to every single question or request.
Honestly, I didn’t want to admit it a year ago, but now I’m beginning to see that SDMB is indeed a bubble. I don’t have a problem calling out conservative bullshit – I love doing it Bill Nye and Bill Maher style. The problem I have here is that we’re intentionally trying to chase off conservative voices. We’re shouting them down and shutting them up.
Read again, and this time try to distill the meaning of the words.
My complaint is that
He.
Does.
Not.
Engage.
That is the opposite of trying to “shut him down.” I want him to “put up”, not “shut up”.
Uh, that is just gross ignorance, many left wingers have been banned for being jerks or trolls.
Clothy may had some good ideas, but I do not see any effort on understanding others or debating in good faith in ages from him. As he himself has admitted to trolling, you are just appearing then as a concern troll, maybe without knowing, but the thing is that in this thread there are already links to his reprehensible posting behaviour.
I have to tell you here that many posters before concluded that you fall many times into concern trolling, but I did not see much of that until I saw what you are doing here.
No one is shouting anyone down or shutting anyone up, for fuck’s sake. Clothahump’s latest moronitude has nothing to do with politics, either. He claimed “wetback” wasn’t a racist term.
Liberals do it too.
More seriously, most people preferentially attack weaker arguments rather than the stronger. Carnal K complained about liberals doing this a couple of months ago. Smarter people prefer to engage with the best opposing arguments, but most aren’t in that club. Clothahump certainly isn’t, though he has his areas of expertise.
Most don’t engage. Those that do don’t do it particularly well.
I perceive that conservatives tend to get cut a little more slack due to the board’s imbalance.
I also perceive that conservatives have had a tougher time over the past decade on this debate board, as reality hasn’t supported their arguments. Republicans have given up giving serious arguments for tax cuts and they pretend that the Iraq Invasion wasn’t really a conservative decision.
So who’s left? Clothahump and Hurricane Dikta. Bad reality drives good conservatives to silence.
Minimal. Try twitter.
The real problem with this board is that outflows are exceeding inflows. That’s a shame, as the fighting ignorance framework, while imperfect, is basically the best on the internet.
GIGObuster: The concern trolling has to be unintentional, since asahi isn’t conservative by any stretch, if I have the right guy.
And he’s banned.
Long answer is we don’t anymore.
