waterj2:
There are people on your side of the argument who, based on their past posting records, would disagree with you. And so do I. The point is that you can’t bitch and moan about how your “rights” are being abridged, and then go and say that the very document that grants you any rights at all is “irrelevant.”
neurton star: you really don’t get it. Illegal drugs do NOT have enough “beneficial” uses to outweigh the pain and suffering they cause. There’s no illegal drug that I know of that has some magical medical purpose that we don’t have some legal drug for (perhaps except for Mary Jane’s Mysterious Glaucoma Remedy…I’m not sure I have my facts straight about that).
The research may be medical, but the argument is certainly not reasoned…it is empty rhetoric. Let’s take one example…topical use of coke. Medical researchers found (I assume you’re not lying to me about this) that coke has some benefit when applied topically. That’s a fact (I assume). Saying that cocaine should be legally available because of its benefit when applied topically is obviously not thought out at all…it is empty rhetoric.
I’m really sorry that I showed you up for the illiterate moron that you appear to be, but this is particularly weak.
You need to revisit that original quote for a third time. I did not say that pot contradicted the message BECAUSE it was readily available. Join the other two in Reading for Comprehension 101.
No, you’re selfish because you take an issue that is effecting the entire nation and boil it down to your own desires, as evidenced by this quote. I’m sorry if you don’t like being told what you can and can’t put into your body (incidentally, the right NOT to be told what you can and cannot “do with your body” is more or less an invention of drug reformers and the pro-choice regime), but you have to consider the ramifications outside of your own egomanaical existence.
Or we could divert the money to the people who need it most via therapy and counseling.
Coldfire, I’m not doubting the veracity of your statements, but does marijuana smoke filter completely out of the lungs?? It truly is a magical weed. And there is the matter of a psychological dependence that can develop.
Oblio, once again, I kind of resent the suggestion that all people who wish to see drugs remain illegal are mindless, brainwashed goons. Yes, people who disagree with you are in fact capable of rational though, and no, you are not the lone pillar of independent thought in this nation. I also always find it funny when people who advocate or participate in fucking with your neurotransmitters with artificial chemicals accuse me of being brainwashed.
Makes sense to me. If people put me in charge of them and agreed to pay my salary and much of my living expenses, the first thing I’d want to do is poison them to death.
