why doesn't Mexico build lots of nuclear power plants?

I’m sorry, is the thread still about the practicalities of nuclear power in Mexico?

There is an operating nuclear power plant in México. Claims by posters that México is incapable to build and operate nuclear plants because of the drug cartels or other deficiencies are unfounded. The major reason more nuclear plants are not built is the same as in other countries, political.

not to mention extremely expensive to construct, and very difficult to train employees for. Even china, for it’s millions of engineering grads is having difficulty filling their positions and is poaching American grads for some of their higher-up posts.

Let’s try to move this back on track. I think we’ve had enough of a hijack about drug gangs in Mexico. Let’s get back to discussing issues more directly related to the OP.

Do you have a cite for that? I have been following China’a nuclear power plant program, but I wasn’t aware of a lot of Americans that have permanently relocated to China. There are a lot of Westinghouse employees over there working on their AP1000 reactor program, but I wasn’t aware that many had actually moved to China.
I’m sure a lot of Chinese nuclear engineers do come to the US for training.

There have vast improvement in the operations and management of nuclear plants since Three Mile Island, so I wouldn’t be totally surprised if there was some poaching going on.
