Why doesn't Uncle Cecil spend more time on our boards?

You and I both. How do you think I feel?

Well, there you have it in a nutshell: Uncle Cecil’s two primordial objectives for now: Booze and Jesus. No mention of family, although His presence here this morning would suggest that were are never (?) far from His thoughts. There’s hope, I’d say.

Interestingly, He didn’t exactly dwell on the tax loophole issue raised by heresiarch. Hmmm.

Be that as it may, it was surely nice of you to drop by, Unca. Don’t be strangers.

He posts at 4 in the morning?

The Great One need not sleep!

(I wonder if Cecil will have to cough up to get on the boards too, though. :D)

He’s probably back in his cave by now. Like Usama. For different reasons.

P.S.: Do you realize that, this morning alone, he posted the equivalent of about 15% of his entire output since He registered back in 1999. Creative impulse? Logorrhea (although this usually implies more than 100 words total in one sitting)? And all of this between the ungodly hours of 4:00 and 6:00 A.M. (give or take).

Yeah, He’s probably sleeping it off.

So how does Qadgop the Mercotan fit into all that?

QX, I’m going to lay on some jets.

Good grief, Smeghead made the connection! All second-stagers meet with the Unit to contemplate the newest visualization of the Macrocosmic all! Ment… Cecil will explain further. Everything QX?

I can’t believe he was here.

I’m SWEATING I tell ya

SWEATING

Yep. Read it and weep. MY OP. I never thought I’d see the day. In fact, I’m still doing the happy dance, a couple of days later.

Cecil generally hasn’t liked posting in the past – he doesn’t get paid for it. He gets paid for writing his column, and he’s left management of the Boards to Ed Zotti (who gets paid for catering to Cecil’s whims, I think.)

However, several of us Staffers have been urging that Cecil needs to lend his presence to the Boards more regularly. And we are gratified to find that is happening.

Although, I grant you, I was hoping more that he comment on some of the knottier questions in the GQ forum, or even respond to some of the posers in COMMENTS ON CECIL’S COLUMNS. But we’ll take what we can get, and we’ll push for more.

Are you implying that my question wasn’t knotty enough?

Now that is an alternate persona I could accept!

Only if you don’t shake hands with him.

In a Comments on Cecil’s Columns thread I once pointed out something Cecil had gotten wrong in one of his columns, and he weighed in to (unsuccessfully) defend himself.

So correctly calling him on being wrong seems to be a good way to get him to post. And that also explains why he doesn’t post frequently.

I see Uncle Cecil took my (implicit) advice to heart. He’s on a posting tear. If he keeps this up, he’ll pretty soon break the 100-post barrier.

That doesn’t work. I’ve pointed out three instances wherein Cecil was wrong recently: color of leaves, percentage chance of rain, and one more which I’ve forgotten, without a post from Him.

{waving hand madly}

Ooooh! Ooooh! I know!

Green!

Fiver! I’m aghast! You should know that Cecil as the smartest man alive never makes a mistake. Unfortunately he has editors and proof-readers (Union rules…that’s why a man who’s never wrong has proof-readers) and copy-editiors, and typesetters all of whom can butcher the Master’s text. That’s not to say that you didn’t find a legitmate mistake, but to ascribe it to Cecil…!

Actually, my birthday is on December 24th and, needless to say, it would truly fill me with joy if the Master wasted (er…used) his 100th post to drop me a line/word. Now, to achieve this, he’d probably have to slow his actual blazing pace to a couple of posts per week, at the risk of depriving his teeming million minions of what now has become a quasi-daily occurrence. And I, for having suggested it, would undoubtedly incur the wrath of the SD Community.

Come to think of it, and given that I am altruistic if nothing else, maybe it’s not worth the fuss.
Nice dream though.
