Every year there has been a long waiting list for red, while they have tons of beige, putty, brownish grey, taupe and similar colors collecting dust on the dealer lots.
Now the big colors they are pushing are mustard yellow, with some cobalt blue. But still a waiting list for red.
In the past I’ve read that dealers have to get the same assortment of colors as are popular in Germany.
Can this still be the case? That seems to defy logic in a world economy.
Llama Where do you get your info from? I just read a story about a couple going on a wating list for a new beetle in '98 and they wanted silver green or blue, but couldn’t get. They said red beetles were easy to find.

When my mom bought one of those hideous things, the saleswoman told here silver was hard to get. Apparently the silver paint is an environmental hazard, so they are only allowed to make a certain number per year. Could the same be true of red?
Of course, that story came from a car dealer talking about the cars she was trying to sell. She seemed relatively honest, but still …
