I drank orange soda when I was a kid. If I was going to McDonald’s, I was drinking orange soda. I still drink it on VERY rare occasion, but since they changed either to Hi-C orange drink(non-carbonated) or orange Fanta(which even the kids don’t like), I don’t run across it much. You can still get orange soda in the grocery store, but it’s pretty much a niche drink.
Never thought much about it beyond trying the “orange” drink at McD’s one day to see if I could get a bit of my childhood back(after a disappointing experience with a McNugget…) and being disappointed(again).
I’m not sure which bothers me more: the 8-cup-a-day habit, the depraved goatse-like things he apparently did to his coffee, or that last part about his mom that I can hardly even bear to copy and paste.
Have you tried Orangina? It’s carbonated orange juice rather than actual soda, but I think it’s better. The Fanta in Europe is hella better than the Fanta in the US.
Brynda, about 20 years ago, when I worked for a magazine for supermarket professionals, I had access to research that demonstrated that per capita, black people buy more household cleaning products than white people. Should we therefore conclude that white people don’t clean their houses? Or that cleanliness has something to do with race?
As monstro points out, drinking less coffee doesn’t mean drinking no coffee. The OP asks “Why don’t black people drink coffee?” and states that in his experience they don’t. The research, as well as the anecdotal evidence, indicates that many of us do.
I am cashing in my guest membership card to add another layer to this discussion.
Back in the mid 70’s while working in an amusement park selling drinks, I noticed that the Afro Americans never ordered cola, or Dr. Pepper. They always chose 7-UP, Dew or orange. Over the years, I have never been able to un-notice this. I always wondered if this was a taste thing. Maybe the syrup used in the concoction of the dark colored sodas does not appeal to this group.
I ran a fastfood restaurant . When a black customer came in we tossed a fish sandwich in before he ordered. Anecdotal perhaps, but a couple years of experience backed it up. In manager meetings we would compare notes and the % of fish eaten it the black restaurants was much bigger. Were our hamburgers that bad.?
I have imbibed, as a conservative estimate, twelve thousand cups of coffee. That’s just this month. And I was led into this addiction by my father, who was forced to stop by his doctor or he’d be at the caffeination teat still, and joined in it by his brothers. I’m pretty sure I’m black, but I’ll check my dick if you like.
A lot of people say this. I suspect a lot of people simply don’t get enough sleep, though. I’m not a coffee drinker (I’m not a fan of caffeine in general) but I doubt it’s connected to having a black great-great-grandfather People pissing me off while driving is enough to wake me up fully most mornings - it’s hard to stay sleepy when you’re angry.
Never heard of Orangia. Don’t think it’s available in my area. I think Fresca makes an orange flavor but I’ve never cared for Fresca. I tried it long ago and it seems too carbonated if that makes sense.
I was under the impression it’s not a genetic thing. It’s rather that we’re supposed to be lactose intolerant. If you don’t drink milk after you’re weaned it just happens. And Asians don’t do a lot of dairy. (In fact I’ve heard they think we smell bad from the milky smell they’re not used to.)
Um, I’m a server in a restaurant and I just had a black man raving about how good our coffee is this morning. So the answer, as to every asinine “Why don’t (race) people (do something/eat something/pee standing up?)” question we get here, is they do.
Well, of course there is nothing that is as clear-cut as the OP stated it, but I think the trends in the article cited by KayElCee are interesting. Even more interesting is what seem to me to be a general tendency to try to deny that there are differences between blacks and whites. Instead of “hmmmm…why are blacks more likely to drink fruit drinks?” and “isn’t that interesting…it looks like coffee consumption is less among blacks than whites…Maybe that is due to…(fill in your answer here)” or even “I think the research was poorly conducted due to sampling bias” we get “well, I’m black and I drink coffee so the OP is wrong.”
Then maybe the OP could word his/her question in a less asinine way such as “Why are blacks less likely overall to drink coffee?” (which may be true) instead of “Why don’t blacks drink coffee” (which is false)?
