A number of months, huh? Well by god, doesn’t that ever make you an expert on the entire region! Thanks for your super-informed and not at all bigoted and stereotyping post; we’re all smarter for having read your wisdom, and sad as a pig in shit that you had to leave us.
Reading this thread has made me seriously miss Huddle (now Waffle) House, Hashbrowns Scattered All The Way and Grits. Jekyll Island, KELLER’S FLEA MARKET!
(if you ever go to Georgia, go to Savannah and go see Keller’s Flea Market, even if you don’t want to shop)
Damn You Castleton!
I had just gotten over missing living in Joe-ja and you had to go and start this thread
As has been said, it’s a different way of living, talk slow, drink tea and drive like the devil is chasing you. If you want snow in your southern experience, you can go to Atlanta, that seems to be where the snow line is (was?)
Anyone who thinks the south (okay, just Georgia, specifically Savannah where I lived) is how the south is typically portrayed anywhere has obviously never spent much time there or gained any understanding of the people.
Lawdy I do miss Savannah.
What do you like about NW Arkansas? Fayetteville?
Don’t forget Summit (Breckenridge), Boulder (well, Boulder) and Pitkin (Aspen, yeah I know) counties in Colorado. I’ll leave Colorado Springs off that list.
Probably the most progressive city in the country is also the furthest south. Key West. IMHO of course.
Aw, man! I was eating breakfast! Now it’s all over my screen!
A lot of people hate the South because they believe what popular culture tells them.
Back to that bug thing: We ain’t got nothin’ like this out west palmetto bug - Bing images
Nor do we have giant, flying, hissing roaches that attack! I’ll take a rattlesnake any day over that shit!
We have a T-shirt here in Arizona: When I retire I’m gonna spend my summers up in Canada driving really slow.
Too small. But I guess you can do chicken PARTS in it.
Posting the method will disrail this thread and turn it into a fried chicken thread. Please meet me over in Cafe Society where we can discuss like gentlemen.
I’ve never been there, but the weather seems alright. I’ve heard good/not bad things about the area (though Wal-Mart comes from close by). The Waynesville/Asheville area of NC seemed fine when I was there (early summer), didn’t see winter. More humid than I’d prefer, but not oppressively hot.

I don’t remember mentioning the entire region.
My favorite Southern girl versus Yankee girl joke: Yankee girls say, “You may.” Southern girls say, “Y’all may.” (I’m a Southern boy, born and bred—Southern girls are better in every way.)
And statements like that probably contribute to the feeling of the Op.
Is it only the girls you like, how do you feel about the southern Women?
Funny thing, I found good women everywhere.
Whereas Kansas is a Mecca of culture and education, not to mention a model of good governance.
Southern girls grow up to be Southern women. Who said I didn’t like 'em?
Well you said girls, how would I know you weren’t like would be Senator Moore?
That is a base and dark canard; one that I deeply resent.
I grew up in central Illinois, in a sundown town right outside of Peoria. The Pekin High School team name was the Chinks. Tell me how all the real racism is in the south. When I left for Florida in the mid seventies it was still all white. They were making progress though, they had one Chinese takeout place.
I lived in Florida for the next 30 years. There was racism, but no worse than I saw anywhere else. I know of white guys helping some of the black guys with paying their bills and driving them to and from work every day when the weather was bad. I left Florida to move to North Carolina because the heat and humidity was about to kill me. North Carolina some heat but nowhere near the unrelenting humidity of Florida. I live in the western foothills so I get decent seasonal changes without most of the extremes of being further north or south.
I know some really good people living in all three states. I am glad to be out of Illinois because of the winters and the rustbelt lack of jobs. Glad to leave Florida because of the weather, both hurricane and the heat and humidity. I really enjoy where I am now but the contempt many northerners have for the south is just wrong. If northerners don’t realize that the southern people know they are being made fun of for being southern, all I can tell them is bless your heart.
And you insulted probably 80% of the women in the country with your silly statement.
When we went to SC (for the beach) and saw my daughter-in-law’s sister who lived there, she warned us not to discuss politics where we could be overheard as it could possibly be dangerous. I still cannot understand why they believe that the Republican party has their interests in mind, when it is clear that the only thing two Republicans can agree is that the rich are oppressed by their taxes.
Nor I. One of the kids who shelved books at the library where I worked in Little Rock remarked that she was in her teens before she realized that Conservatives could be intelligent.
My ex Wife was born in NY and lived in NH.
They also have roaches and over weight people.
I stopped to let two women enter a grocery store before me in NH and smiled. They ran away. I’m 5’ 3" and 120 lb.
My Wife chided me for leaving my wallet on the counter; someone would steal it, she assured me.
