I think this might be more the distinction. I understand the $$ of going for an actual pedicure, but to go out in public with grown out polish on the toes looks horrible.
The water park I was at is indoor and attached to the hotel.

To each his/her own. Paint your toes or not, I really don’t care. Personally, I’d prefer not to see them at all. Not a foot person.
Living in Florida, I get pedicures about once a month. It’s a fairly inexpensive way to be pampered for about an hour.
My polish color, however, is my choice. The last time I got a mint green on my toes that made Ivylad shudder. Now, I have a lovely sparkly red that I like and he likes to. But I may go yellow next time.
My feet, my choice.
Despite living in tropically hot Miami, I and all my friends keep “restaurant sweaters” in the car. Which coordinates with nobody’s ensembles, least of all fancy women’s clothing. Ours are heavy pullover sweatshirts with a local tourist logo.
Why? Because of the number of places that run the AC down to 65 to either manage the humidity or the temp in the kitchen or both. Idjits.
Some of us don’t get pedicures at all. I got one once and it was a terrible experience. Never had any desire to try it again. Never had a manicure, and never wanted one. I trim my own nails when they get too long for my taste. I quit wearing nail polish 30-ish years ago - it wasn’t worth the hassle.
Frankly, there are other things I’d rather spend my disposable income on. And I really don’t care about some stranger’s opinion of my fingers and toes.
Do you know how many f**ks I give about anyone else’s opinion about anything to do with my body and its appearance? Zero. The answer is zero. I currently have two patches of turquoise blue polish left on my toes from months ago. I’m really not sorry if that offends your delicate sensibilities.
For all practical purposes, it is, if you’re more or less immersed in it. It can absorb your body heat a hell of a lot faster than air that’s at a considerably lower temperature.
Same thing here when I’m visiting my in-laws in central Florida. I keep a flannel shirt in the car for when we go to the movies, or Denny’s, or almost anywhere else where we’ll be inside for awhile and not moving around much.
I find pedicures to be a boring waste of time. Besides the expense, I don’t want to be trapped in the damn chair for an hour, wishing I could be out accomplishing something instead. And then they always forget about you while your polish dries.
Not to imply that you need my approval or support, but IMHO painted toenails make toes look decidedly unsexy.
If you feel strongly about this, then don’t go out in public with grown out polish on your toes.
Problem solved!
I get mani-pedi about once a month. I do the shellac on my toes so it lasts (that’s a money-saving tip for some of you).
I also wear a military uniform 95% of the time for work, so my pedi is really just for me :). I have no interest in having “sexy toes” for someone.
My wife and I get pedi’s every 6 weeks or so. She gets hers toes painted only in the summer, no one sees them in the winter. I have an ingrown big toe nail on my right foot. It’s easier to let them dig it out than trying to do it myself.
Same here. And I wear open-toed shoes!
At least you can see my nails are clean.
If I was going to subscribe to a conspiracy theory, it might be that nail polish is a way to burn up women’s money and distract them with shiny colors.
However, I do wear makeup, so the evil plotters against womankind have trapped me already.
My girlfriend gets them year round but we live in So Cal so wear sandals all year. I believe my ex wife got them year round as well but I don’t remember being that aware one way or the other.
I don’t ever recall getting either a mani or a pedi in my entire life.
I do, however, take care of my feet and hands, clean the nails, keep them trimmed, sand the heels now (ah… the changes of age!) and so forth. So, no shiny polish but clean, groomed feet.
I like sandals, but it gets too cold to wear them around here from late fall to late spring, and they’re not practical in snow.
Did you shave your legs before going to the water park? I’m so sick of seeing ugly, hairy man legs everywhere.
I’m fine with my own, mind you, I just think everyone else should shave theirs.
I was going to ask OP this myself, but hesitated to do so. Alternatively, he could wear an ankle-length granny dress everywhere, right?
ETA: And let’s not even mention that bizarre fashion of adult females (and some males even) of shaving their highly private parts! Oops, I just did that, didn’t I.
I have no problem shaving my legs or anything else. Grooming is a good thing.
Sure you do.
Even if that’s true, you didn’t come here to complain about all of the unsightly, hairy man legs, did you? No, it’s just women whose job it is to keep up on the hundreds of stupid little beauty rituals that men have decided we need to do in order to be sexually attractive to them.
