Why don't women like Satriani?

At least not enough to go to his concerts? I totally get that he’s a less-than-soulful technician, and that technique is a turn-on for (especially young) guys, but there have to be a FEW female music geeks out there who hear the 5-on-4 and think it’s impressive. I mean, I know from personal experience that there are women in music programs who have been through “Elementary Training for Musicians” and thought it was good stuff. Why aren’t they sitting in the front row at Joe’s concerts saying “That’s SO cool!”?

I got a copy of the first G3 and noticed that there were no women to be seen. In fact, I’d go so far as to say there were only males between 15 and 30 in the audience. WTF???

Huh. Don’t know. When I was more of a concert-going gal, I would have seen him, in a heartbeat. The man is teh shit.

I don’t mind his music, but last time he was in town, I sent my husband off to talk to his brother-in-law about going to see him live. I have no interest in seeing him. I can’t actually tell you why - I’d go see Jesse Cook live in a heartbeat.

Joe Satriani is the Rush of instrumental guitarists, I guess.

A girlfriend and I saw him a couple years ago. He was great. Mr. K and Mr. Friend stayed home (and Mr. Friend is a professional musician!).

I’d love to see Satch live, but I’ve never had the opportunity.

Same here. I have his first album and he features pretty prominently on my last.fm account.

Hmm…apparently I’m wrong. Let’s all get together and attend the same concert and sit in the front row.

It looks like tomorrow (Nov. 22, 2008) is the last stop on the current tour (in San Francisco) and I can’t make that. Maybe next time.

Joe’s tour page.

He is a shredder and his concerts are wankfests. Now - he is a very tasteful as far as shredding goes and there is more to his playing than just shred-wanking, but that is the “easy” pigeonhole to stuff him into. No surprise that the appeal is mostly testosterone driven…
