Why Has the Amazon.com Site Been Down for Four Days?

Maybe this is one of those, “Is this just me?” questions. I haven’t been able to access Amazon.com for four days now, and I was wondering if anyone else has had this problem. Is it possible that I just can’t access it for some reason?

Alternately, has anyone heard of major rennovations or problems that Amazon.com has been having? The last time I remember a site crash, they said that the site had been hacked and credit card info compromised. Could it possibly be something like that?

I’ts just you I’m afraid (or it’s everyone in the world except me)

try amazon.co.uk if you are just wanting to search/browse.

I bought something there earlier this afternoon with absolutely no problems. If you find out it’s been hacked, please post the info here.

I can get there. I was there yesterday too. I’d guess that either your ISP is having problems or your browser is choking on the actual page.

Can you resolve the www.amazon.com name?

Amazon.com is the only site I’m having trouble with right now. I get the white page: “The page cannot be displayed
The page you are looking for is currently unavailable. The Web site might be experiencing technical difficulties, or you may need to adjust your browser settings.”

Maybe I do need to adjust something. How would I go about doing so?

This is going to sound obvious - Press the refresh button. If no success type in the url manually and press enter. Still no success find your temporary internet files folder and delete everything

what browser are you using?

By the way, I can’t access the British site, either.

I’m using Internet Explorer. I have tried both methods you suggested, ** Lobsang, ** as well as trying to access it through doing a search on Yahoo!and clicking on the link. Nothing works.

Could be a problem at your service provider then. Try e-mailing their support number.

Or phoning their support email address, even.

:smack:

My brain is twisted round today. Earlier on I asked family members - “does anyone need a bath? before I go to the toilet?”

Is this from work or from home? If it’s from work, it’s possible that access is being limited to some sites for some reason.

I wish I could have your post as my sig Joe Random it had me in stitches.

It’s from home, **Purd Werfect. **

I sent tech support an e-mail. I was just hoping that some Doper would know a simple fix.

Thanks, everyone, for trying. If anyone else has any ideas, please share them.

Let us know what they say Lissa

Lissa do you get the error message instantly or does the browser ‘try’ for a couple of seconds and then show the error.

If it is instant the problem could be at your end, if there is a delay of at least 5 or more seconds it could be an isp problem.

It’s instant. I have a cable modem, in case that matters.

As I said, Amazon is the only page that’s doing this. If I owed them money, I’d swear I’d been evicted.

If it’s a cable modem then the instantness (word?) could be less of an issue.

Do you have a software firewall installed?

Have you emptied your temporary files folder?

Try emptying the history too (unless you would rather not lose your history)

Just tried emptying my history. There was a pause, and then I got the white page again.

I had already tried deleting my temporary internet files folder.

I don’t have a firewall that I’m aware of.

Which version of IE are you using?
