set a film in the Chernobyl exclusion zone – you know the huge area that humans have been excluded from for decades because of the radiation? (yes, I saw the show on “Nature” last night). What a great setting (you don’t actually film there, obviously) for a sci-fi flick! Radiated animal populations get wise and army up against humans. Or humans who unwisely stayed there or go there to enjoy the new wilderness turn into psycho-zombies. Or sad ghosts haunt the ghost cities, decide to take revenge. Or something.
What’s your idea for Hollywood to run with? Do you have a setting or plot idea you just can’t believe they haven’t used yet?
Chernobyl Diaries. Coming soon to a theatre near you.
I’d go with something overtly supernatural like ghosts. Most movie goers these days know that over-exposure to radiation causes illness and death, not monstrous mutation or zombies. IRL, the region is largely returning to the forest and isn’t like the photographs taken closer to the time of the evacuation any more. Due to on-site monitoring, tours, (elderly) people who never left, and whatnot it isn’t quite as deserted as people like to imagine. There wasn’t a sudden, massive loss of life that would be a convenient reason for having ghosts, but something could be cobbled up by the scriptwriters.
well dang, Hampshire. will do my google research before I post next time.
Anyone else have ‘brilliant’ ideas someone else has probably come up with already?
I have a script idea where a kid gets bitten by a radioactive spider and gains these superpowers like super-strength, organic web-shooters he can use to create webs and the ability to immediately die from radiation sickness.
Can’t help but feel it needs work, though.
