Why have conservatives left this message board?

I am a white-collar freelancer, working in advertising. And, in fact, for most of the past 20 years, I’ve worked on health insurance accounts.

I do not get health insurance from an employer, and I’m too young to be on Medicare. So, I have to buy my own coverage, and, yeah, that means I’m on an ACA (Obamacare) plan.

I also have several pre-existing conditions. Prior to the Affordable Care Act, health insurance companies were allowed to, and did, discriminate against people who have pre-existing conditions, and chose to not sell them health coverage, at any price. The ACA included a new rule, which prevents health insurers from discriminating against those of us with pre-existing conditions.

Without the ACA, I would absolutely be uninsured right now. I would not be able to buy health coverage for myself, at all. Which would mean paying “rack rate” costs for any healthcare I need, and facing the fact that many doctors and hospitals could flat-out refuse to treat me, except for emergency situations.

So, take your hated for “Obamacare,” and shove it up your backside.

Nope, you are just an ignorant racist. That is not DEI. And those are your feelings.

Well here in the states when you get your motorcycle license you have to do a “California Stop” where you come to a full stop and balance your motorcycle for about 3 seconds then take off again before you can pass the test. Maybe that was only on the Marine Corps Base Quantico or Camp Lejeune. I’m not a troll and I honestly don’t wish you any ill will.

Nope, you would like to see others dead, thanks for showing us who you are.

I’m glad you have health insurance, I hope that it will get better and less expensive in the future. Truly hope that the jobs that come back to the US will help many people be able to get better insurance. My family has been very fortunate with our health. I do have one son that is on Obamacare.

I don’t wish anyone dead. I hope that your insurance covers psychological help too. You definitely seem to have anger issues and can’t seem to get through a civil debate or comment without getting your feelings hurt. I wish you the best and will forever wish only the best for America first. Signing off for tonight. God bless and keep you safe!

No civil debates with a troll and you are one. You just regurgitate the tripe you are fed from the right wing without thinking.

I was riding motorcycles before there were riding tests or helmet laws. The US is not COTU.

Well, thank you…but again, the only reason that I have health insurance right now is that we are, as you described it, “stuck with Obamacare.”

I’ll accept that you’re not a troll, but you’re clearly an idiot. You’ve allowed yourself to become inculcated into a belief system that was planned for you by obscenely wealthy people over the past 30+ years, and you’ve fallen into their trap with no self-examination about whether it withstands honest scrutiny. Your arrogance and black-and-white way of looking at the world doesn’t allow you to examine your beliefs outside of the narrow information silo within which you “educate” yourself. How sad.

You complain about others “depending on the government tit,” yet you yourself have sucked at the military government tit for, what, decades? Isn’t all your medical care covered for your whole life? I don’t grudge you that, but why must you scorn others who chose a path in life different to yours?

I’m as self-made as any person you’ll ever meet. I started with nothing and I did all right. My husband took a job with a large company so we could have health insurance, and I could pursue my self-employment. He died unexpectedly. I was left with options very similar to @kenobi_65. I had a couple of minor preexisting conditions and that was enough for greedy health insurance companies to schmuck me off into “high risk” insurance. You don’t want to know what that cost per month. I could go on about what a racket it was, but suffice it to say that I cried with relief when Obamacare was passed and I finally had some protection from predatory health insurers.

You could learn a lot on this message board if you wished to, but I suspect you’re just here to gloat about your piece of shit president and how marvelous it is that you can now believe yourself to be superior to the rest of us with your racist, misogynistic white privileged views. No one else better be equal to white men, dammit! That’s not fair! Poor baby.

Before you say it, my feelings aren’t hurt in the least. I’m just sick of dipshits like you pretending they know something the rest of us don’t.

Before you go (and you will go, because there’s no way you’ll be able to defend your pathetic opinions in the face of actual reality discussed on this Board), here’s a list of the many reasons why your Lord God Trump is mostly despised here:

The list is comprised of factual information that anyone wishing to know the actual truth can verify for themselves. Don’t worry; no one here expects someone like you to expend the effort or the intellectual honesty to do it. But maybe dial back your smug, self-satisfied statements by reviewing it and asking whether you’re really, really sure about all the tired Faux-News platitudes you spew. For fuck’s sake, you’re a veritable caricature of a right wing nut job.

Thank you for your service, and I do mean that sincerely. Just don’t act like it entitles you to believe yourself to be so much better than anyone else.

Now fuck off.

Nah, I’m happy when you demonstrate how you ignore cites, it helps show others that many of the ones that claim to be conservatives are not so. You are just a typical Sealion.

Your crap cadence repeats in that thread are disgusting.
And I grew up with a Marine DI.

You should be ashamed to have voted for the Idiot person #1.
As a Marine, who claims to care about his country-persons and America you have abandoned any respect you may have won in your actual service.
You embarrassment.

You and your idiot president can suck eggs. Oh, can you afford them on your Mil. Ret pay?

And you enjoy that Tricare while you can. I have a feeling you’ll lose it. Nothing is safe from Elon.

Tit, indeed.

See:

Guess which category – best case – you fall into?

Exactly.

Seriously?
I have moved from somewhat right of center, to somewhat left of center over the last 40 years
Likely a good bit as a result of reading this site.
But I can also see this site gets very irrational with any contrition thoughts.
Almost any good faith right of center thought, is met with mockery - and called for a cites.
Which would be fair if done consistently.

You are a fucking joke. It is as if you had a Trump Bingo Card in front of your face and decided to go for “Blackout” in your first few posts. With all the leg-pulling and chain-jerking you are trying to pull off it will be a miracle if you survive the week.

Yeah, it’s not even worthwhile responding. Either they’re a troll or they’re completely removed from any connection to reality. Or both.

Given that “good faith” is an increasing rarity on the right these days, the mockery is the result of years of dealing with those not arguing in good faith. Those who do act in good faith are victims of the rest of the right-wing, not of the left.

This is less of an issue from the left, but we still insist on cites there too.

Racist moron.

I think that it is worth noting that this is an international message board. It may be based in the United States, but there are many members who are not Americans—we SDMB posters live all over the globe, and we who do not live in the US do not necessarily agree with the US administration’s policies. We non-Americans will say so, if the argument warrants.

I’d suggest that our friend might learn from we non-Americans. He may not like what he hears from us, but he should hear that right now, we in the free world regard the US as ruled by a dangerous man-boy, who is in the thralls of dementia, and who is trying to be a dictator, like his heroes Vladimir Putin and Kim Jong-Un.

Americans, you went to war in WWII against a dictator; Adolf Hitler. You went to war in Korea against a dictator, Kim-Il Sung. You went to war in Vietnam against a dictator: Ho Chi Minh. Why will you not go to war against Trump—a wannabe dictator, like them?

Subject for a different thread IMO – and I believe there is one on-topic, but currently can’t do a proper search.

Because we’ve become a nation of the short-attention spanned, and the Democrats kept taking the high road during the presidential campaign (which never works on Trump) and didn’t advertise his numerous crimes and insurrections. The GOP is too afraid of suffering Liz Cheney’s fate to speak against him, so we’re learning the consequences of our actions the hard way. In the meantime, our educational systems are being gutted so that we can produce more dumb voters. The fanatics outnumber the enlightened.

IIRC one general point the proponents of Critical Race Theory make is that a lot of the progress made before was a result of the fierce and sometimes hot Cold War.

Hard to claim democracy was the best when Jim Crow, lack of good education other things were common, but then when Sputnik did go up:

On the day Sputnik first orbited the earth, the chief clerk of the Senate’s Education and Labor Committee, Stewart McClure, sent a memo to his chairman, Alabama Democrat Lister Hill, reminding him that during the last three Congresses the Senate had passed legislation for federal funding of education, but that all of those bills had died in the House. Perhaps if they called the education bill a defense bill they might get it enacted. Senator Hill—a former Democratic whip and a savvy legislative tactician—seized upon on the idea, which led to the National Defense Education Act.

There had been strong resistance to federal aid to education, but as public opinion demanded government action in the wake of Sputnik, the Senate once again moved ahead with its education bill. Knowing that opponents in the House remained resistant, Senator Hill conferred with another Alabama Democrat, Representative Carl Elliott, who chaired the House subcommittee on education. Meeting in Montgomery, they devised a strategy for getting the NDEA enacted. They framed the debate around the question of whether federal funds should go to students as grants, as the Senate preferred, or as loans. Opponents in the House denounced the notion of grants as “socialist.” When the House prevailed on loans, the rest of the Senate’s version of the bill swooped through to passage. In fact, the grants versus loans debate had been a ploy. Senator Hill and Representative Elliott realized that having voted the same bill down repeatedly in the past, the House had to have something on which it could win.

The National Defense Education Act of 1958 became one of the most successful legislative initiatives in higher education. It established the legitimacy of federal funding of higher education and made substantial funds available for low-cost student loans, boosting public and private colleges and universities.

So what about “cold war over” “Russia is not an enemy” mantras from MAGA today? That is translating as: ‘Lets defund education, as it is not needed now’…

Seeing almost all Republicans looking away while the books are burning, does not lead to conservatives that make good arguments about that, or support science or education or due process.

Conservatives that do remain in the SDMB (and there are more than a few) do realize the problems and do efforts to counter the current irrational Republican leadership.
