Why I now support Obama

I will preface this by saying that I still believe Clinton is the best one for the job and if she does pull out a miracle and wins I will be extatic.

With that said, the CA supreme court ruling on same-sex marriage and the looming amendment proposition that will likely be on the ballot here in november brings me out in support of Obama.

My reason is that Obama is recieving nearly unprecedented support from young democrats and drawing them to the polls in record numbers. The trend among the younger crowd leans heavily toward support of same-sex marriage and they are more likely to help defeat the amendment. I fully understand that Obama himself is on the record as not being in support of SSM, but I would wager that a large segment of his supporters are.

Is my reasoning selfish? Hell yes.

(I thought about putting this in MPSIMS, but seeing as it was political I settled on GD. If the mods disagree, feel free to move it.)

I am not a big pusher of SSM for similar selfish reasons, namely that it will cause opponents to turn out and not only defeat SSM but also push other conservative candidates and positions. While my position would likely be different if I were to be the moral target of the bigots, I cannot see from my current position why someone would want to throw away legal equality for the pursuit of legalized moral equality, which no one is obligated to hold in their hearts anyway.

But if you can change the governments definition of marriage, more power to ya
