Why I would vote to bring back the Fairness Doctrine

Who determines who gets what radio station? Instead of the gov’t trying to determine what is “fair” and how to present “contrary viewpoints”, why not just auction off the stations? Liberals or different viewpoints could have talk shows and compete with Limbaugh etc. in the war of ideas?

It should be easy for them as there are so many talk show hosts that divide conservatives (Colter, Limbaugh, Hannity, etc, etc) but there aren’t any liberals it seems.

So why not do that? Why do you need the heavy hand of the government to make things “fair”.

And comparing it to the op-eds of old is ridiculous. Limbaugh is on 3 hours per day…so every station that has him has to put a liberal on 3 hours too? Maybe they could alternate days?

Liberals don’t want “their own show” they want to ruin other people’s shows. How dare people listen to conservatives withotu being bombarded wtih liberal viewpoints!

I agree, but from what I have seen most liberals don’t view these things as an exchange of ideas. They view them as their side is right and the other side is (racist, bigoted, hate-filled) and deep-down, they don’t think that there should even be a debate.

For example, look at some gay marriage threads. Unless you supposed a federal law mandating that all 50 states allow full gay marriage, then you are a bigot according to many people. If you support restrictions on abortion then you are for treating women as your own personal property. If you mention the word Jesus within 500 yards of a schoolchild then that obviously is “Congress” “establishing a religion” in violation of the first amendment.

Their ideas are extreme and they are in a declared war to overturn traditional values. They don’t want the next generation hearing about how things “used” to be. They don’t want a debate. They want what they used to have which is a one-sided platform to spew liberal ideology to the next generation.
