Chris, you are freaking me out. Every time I read one of your posts, I swear it’s about me. We must have been twins in a past life.

I too, have a spending problem. But like Chris, I really get off on buying stuff for other people. I cannot buy online, because I have no credit cards, thank Goddess. If I had credit cards, and there were still poorhouses, I’d be living in one. I have an ATM debit card, and that has made my shopping easier, but it’s not associated with Visa or MC, so I can’t use it online. Whew!

I was getting pretty good at not spending for a while there, and then I had kids. Oh geez. I see all these cute toys and clothes and videos, and I snap. I’m not buying them big-ticket stuff, like PlayStations or TV’s. It’s the little stuff that’s killing me. The Elmopalooza video. The Blue’s Clues bedsheets. The Winnie-the-Pooh sneakers. On and on and on.

Boy, do I feel better having gotten that off my chest. Thanks!

Update, sunbear: The good news is, they got LOTS of Pokemon yellows – I saw boxes of them.

The bad news is that I was WAY off on price. They’re $49/95, plus tax.

Thanks for the tip.I think we will try some stores Dec 23, and then after christmas. We have one game boy color, one monochrome. My son had a battery pack, rechargeable. It had a 90 day warranty. I think it lasted 95 days!

When people withdraw all this cash for Jan 1, are they going to have “spend all your Y2K money” sales?

Melin, look again. I found Pokemon yellow for $30. Comp USA had it.

The only venues I enjoy shopping at:

  • Amazon (relax, Puff; it’s an on-topic reference and the exact opposite of a source of income for me!)
  • hardware stores; they just have such neat stuff
  • antique stores
  • book stores of any description
  • office supply places; I love prowling around them.

Other than that, I hate, loathe and dread shopping, especially for clothes. IMO, that’s why God invented catalogs and websites.

Actually, I hate to shop! The ladies at my office laugh at me because I can go to the store at lunch time and buy makeup at the Lancome counter, purchase a skirt, a matching blouse, shoes, and still have enough time to stop and get lunch on the way back to the office.

Today I think I set a record. I went to Dillards and bought my husband a pair of shoes, slacks, sweater, 3 pairs of socks, and a gift certificate. Then I stopped at La Madelines and ordered a cake for a birthday party on Friday, bought lunch for the ladies at work, bought 2 gift certificates and was still back at the office in less than an hour.

I am bad about ordering things on Ebay. I’m decorating my office in lighthouses and it’s sooooo easy to get on Ebay and bid. Fortunately, I a bit of a tight wad so I won’t spend too much money. I set a limit and stick to it.
