Why in gods name is Snapchat worth $3 billion

And every time younger people use it, Snapchat effectively pays them to use it, and loses money in the process.

The same reason any hip, trendy smartphone app is: Because they’ve created a media presence that has a direct pipe to billions of people on a daily (and instantaneous) basis. Doesn’t really matter what the app actually does (or doesn’t) do. PCs took almost 20 years to become a full-fledged new medium like newspapers & TV. Smartphones not only did it faster, they did it better. Smartphones are as ubiquitous as car keys, not just home computers, and literally in everyone’s pockets all the time everywhere they go.

A successful app is an advertising Mad Man’s wet dream. Times a million. Or, actually, times a billion! Thing is, just like the dotcom bubble, not all of these apps are going to survive their billionaire phase…

No, just teaching self-respect. But thanks for attempting to play along.

Why in gods name is Snapchat worth $3 billion ? I would chalk it up to David Hannum.
