Why (in your opinion) are people still talking on cellphones while driving?

My local CAA (AAA to you guys) offers driving courses to everyone; I’d be surprised if yours doesn’t, lindsay.

Yep mine does, their next one doesn’t line up with my schedule but one in the future does. I guess I never put two and two together (as in, AAA would be the most rational group to do defensive driving classes*.

I saw an article somewhere recently that noted that insurance companies have not found the level of accidents that one would expect to follow from the findings about cell-phone distraction. There is some thought that drivers who talk on their cell phones compensate by reducing the other common in-car distractions – radio, conversation with passengers, nose-picking, makeup, hair, fax machine, etc.

Then there’s the tale my BIL told whilst driving down the road one morning - on patrol, in uniform, in his fully-marked, in-your-face, state police car. A young lady blew by him - busily applying her mascara in the rear view mirror. I can’t remember if he stopped and ticketed her for utter stupidity, but i’m pretty sure he did.
