My apologies if I missed this upthread: Do you report the posts where you believe people are rule weaseling weekly? If not, I encourage you to do so, it helps the mods see things that they might have missed.
I pitted Liberal? Really? I wonder what for… oh yeah. For the nonsensical “Moving!” post, and some drama that I was fed up with.
Are you saying I’m a “hater”? I think calling me out is pretty pathetic, considering I don’t normally follow his postings, and only pitted him for that. But I can still see special treatment when I see it, and Liberal gets it. I’m not the only one who sees it. Personally, I don’t really give a shit, and I’ve mentioned a number of times that TPTB can choose to run this board the way they want. But that doesn’t mean I won’t point out the obvious every now and then. 
tomndebb is incapable of admitting he might be wrong, and will spend the next forever defending his POV. Or until this thread is locked. Whichever suits him.

I rarely, if ever, report threads in GD. Tom has, at least once, indicated that he doesn’t believe those thread reports are confidential and has brought up a [http://boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showpost.php?p=10135336&postcount=152poster’s reports to try to win an argument/shut up a poster.
< we now pause for Tom to say “But Shodan mentioned reported threads in an earlier post in that thread” and “But I wasn’t in my forum, I wasn’t acting as a mod when I was using mod-only info to attack him” as though those points were relevant. >
Therefore, while I try to help mods in other forums, including reporting a likely returned multi-troll to Tuba/Lynn/Gfactor, I’m not comfortable doing so in GD.

Syntropy, don’t read too much into the philosophy comment. Since Liberal wasn’t given any special treatment, that was plainly not intended as a justification for that treatment. And I disagree with the example you’re giving. I see it as an ironclad rule in GD that if a poster stipulates “Let us assume Obama is a socialist and discuss how Americans might respond to a true socialist agenda,” the first ten posts will argue that Obama isn’t a socialist. That’s life. People don’t get warned for hijacking when they do that because it’s a valid part of the debate even if it’s not the argument the OP wants. If somebody goes off on a tangent about how Obama is not a citizen, that might lead to a caution or warning about hijacking.
There’s no rule against posting that you have reported a post, but you probably shouldn’t disclose this.
I know, I was being facetious. Did you not read my SECOND sentence? The one where I said

More importantly, mods shouldn’t tell the board at large when or if a given poster has sent a report. Since Tom doesn’t believe that these are confidential, I avoid reporting posts in GD.

Thank you for addressing the concern. I still disagree with the principle, but obviously I understand it’s a necessarily subjective judgment call.
Ordinarily I agree and I’ve never disclosed who reported a post. Unfortunately Tomndebb was being accused of trying to get a poster banned by ignoring his reports. His options were consisted of ignoring a pretty serious accusation, and therefore giving it credence, or saying something and gets accused of violating someone’s confidence.
Because then someone asks who it is and it gets hinted at or disclosed. Defeats the point of reporting it in private, doesn’t it?
I hope this doesn’t come across as offensive, Lib, because it certainly isn’t intended that way, but what you have been doing differently seems to be helping. People can’t get you to react, and it’s driving them nuts.

Question for the mods: Given the nontolerance for weaseling 'round the rules, would you consider this an attempt at junior modding? Could you clarify why or why not?
I don’t consider myself part of the Liberal fan club, nor do I consider myself part of the Liberal hate club.
Just because I think someone is an idiot, liar, drama queen, douche, or any number of things does not equal hate. I don’t follow nutbags around and hijack their threads. (ok, there was the one time in the pit where I called people “Liberal” as an insult)
I find the whole thing interesting myself. Here you have a poster that seems to create a lot of disruption because of his behaviour. As stated above he’s already been pitted a number of times this year and, I’d happen a guess, he hold the record for the member most pitted in the history of the dope. Yet tomndebb seems to be his protector and Liberal’s tomfoolery goes mostly unnoticed by the staff - except to intervene in threads and tell other posters not to call Liberal names.
But, at the end of the day I really don’t care. Your board, your rules.
The only time I read the dope these days is from posts being talked about in the snarkpit.

My apologies if you’re looking for an answer for someone else, but it’s not junior modding. It’s a request, and a polite one at that. The OP of a thread is allowed to make requests. The fact that they are consistently ignored is evidence of how much authority those requests usually carry.
