Got the strangest piece of mailbox spam today (formerly known as junk mail) – a letter from the Music Department of LMU, advertising the sale of a bunch of second-hand pianos. The letter’s salutation reads, “Dear Faculty, Staff, Alumni & Friends of the Department of Music…”
Here’s the thing. I’ve never attended LMU, never worked there, nor has anyone in my immediate or extended family. But the envelope’s got my home address on it, with my name & everything, not “Current Resident” or anything like that. Now, I’m used to getting unusual junk mail – sometimes I can even tell where it comes from, based on what they’re advertising and how it matches the information I faked on some website registration form. Time & Newsweek have been begging me to re-subscribe for years, tracking me down from address to address like some deranged stalker. I’m fine with that, there’s a trash bin right next to the mailbox for that explicit purpose.
But this one’s just…odd. How the hell did I wind up on THIS mailing list??
