Why is my bone china stained and squeaking?

The bone china we received for Christmas is supposed to be microwave/dishwasher safe but after we ran it through the dishwasher it came out funny. There are weird silvery-white patches on the plates (very subtle, you can only see it when you turn it on some angles) and the plates now squeak when they touch each other, or when you use cutlery on them. Last night I ate a plum on one of the plates and now the silvery-white patch has stained to a faint grey-purple.

I googled bone china but all the results say that it’s supposed to be very durable and unstainable.

So this GQ is twofold:

  1. What caused the shiny patches/squeaking?
  2. Can I get rid of the shiny patches/squeaking, or should I just throw the plates out?

Some kind of residue from the soap…

I don’t have any idea about the specific spots, but I’ll share the dishwashing tips my ceramicist mother gave us when we bought non-dishwasher safe china recently, intending to put them in the dishwasher: use the light/china setting, only use about a teaspoon of dishwasher detergent, don’t let them clack against each other, and let them cool before you stack them, because the metallic lusters on many types of china are softer when hot and can get dinged more easily.
